Romans 15:7

‘Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.’ (Rom 15:7)

To welcome our neighbor is certainly fundamental in order to live the commandment of God, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. But we must also remember that prudence must govern all of the other virtues, also and above all, charity. One sees clearly in the Gospels that Jesus welcomed people, byt also Jesus Who is Love incarnate, welcomed people for their true good and for the good of the community and for the good of the whole Church. At the beginning of the Gospels, at the beginning of the public life of Jesus, He preformed many miracles and healings. But slowly Jesus offered to the people and to His disciples the explanation of how one must live in order to follow Him totally in order to freely choose the way that leads to true happiness that lasts, true peace and in the end, eternal life. Many were very happy to be healed or to receive a lunch offered with the multiplication of the bread and the fish. But when Jesus explained what was needed in order to overcome our egoism and to truly love God and neighbor, that is, to follow Jesus to Jerusalem, to Calvary, to the crucifixion, few remained faithful to Jesus.

Saint Thomas Aquinas wrote: “Rarely affirm, seldom deny, always distinguish.” But more and more in our world today WE ARE DISCOURAGED TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL, with the help of the supernatural virtue of prudence, especially regarding the essential things, which results in much evil and damage. In our secularized world today, which has entered very much into the Church, the values of true Christianity, which direct us toward God and to our true home in heaven, do not count for anything and are even criticized.

IT IS NECESSARY TO WELCOME THE NEIGHBOR IN A WAY THAT OFFERS TO THE NEIGHBOR HIS TRUE GOOD. How many people today offer the good to the neighbor only for this short life without any concern if that good, or welcome, helps the person to arrive to the happiness that lasts for eternity, and thus to help the person to welcome the Truth of God which truly makes us free (Jn 8:32), and not just happiness today but not tomorrow or after death? THE FUNDAMENTAL LAW OF GOD IN THE NATURAL AND SUPERNATURAL REALMS, which one sees in the life of Jesus, is that first there is sacrifice, the passion, the crucifixion, and then the true fruits, the resurrection. Today, a great number of people believe, even and especially in the Church, that one can skip or jump over Calvary and paradise is automatic: for a great number of people today, there is no more sin which Jesus tells us does great harm, in fact, the evil for which Jesus came to offer us the possibility to free ourselves from the fundamental evil. As our grandparents told us: no cross, no crown; no pain, no gain! But today almost everyone believes that you can have the crown and the gain without the cross and without the pain with Jesus. In our world today there is needed a good amount of guts to say the Truth that makes us truly free (Jn 8:32), instead of only what people want to hear which does not help them to arrive at their true good!

Today there are a great number of priests and bishops who offer misguided compassion, false mercy, instead of: “ONLY WHAT IS TRUE CAN ULTIMATELY BE PASTORAL”.
Visit: “Who Decides The Truth?” (http://spir-food.blogspot.it/2014/06/who-decides-truth.html).

TRUE LOVE MEANS TO RESPECT ALSO OUR FREE WILL: each person is free to seek the uncomfortable Truth, tied to the cross, which leads to true freedom, or to freely deceive oneself pushing aside the Truth of God, the 10 Commandments explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and to convince oneself that tomorrow does not matter! As Saint Augustine wrote: “God who made you without your consent, will not save you without your consent.”

Sometimes, depending on the situation, prudence tells us to do as the saints did in certain situations:
“Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you deep away from any brother who is living in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us…” (2Thess 3:6).

IN THE DIARY OF SAINT FAUSTINA ONE FINDS:
“I will not speak with a certain person, because I know that Jesus does not like it and that she does not profit by it” (Diary, 277).
Regarding the Vow of Chastity: “To guard the senses, to avoid occasions, to avoid idleness, to remove temptations promptly, to remove oneself from all - and especially particular friendships, the spirit of mortification, and to reveal all these temptations to one's confessor” (Diary, 93).
“I will avoid sisters who grumble, and if they cannot be avoided, I will at least keep silent before them, thus letting them know how sorry I am to hear such things” (Diary, 226).
There was a person who kept accosting me with flattering words, … When I left the chapel, they were there, armed and waiting for me to pass. This time, I was overcome with fear. Then Jesus stood by me and said, Do not fear. I am with you. Then I felt an extraordinary strength in my soul, which I cannot describe and, being a few steps from them, I said boldly and loudly, "Praised be Jesus Christ."And they, stepping aside, responded, "For ever and ever. Amen." As if struck by lightning, they bowed their heads, not even daring to look at me. After I had passed, I could hear some malicious comments. Ever since that time, when this person sees me, he runs away in order not to meet me and I, thanks to the Lord, have been left in peace...” (Diary, 1704).

As I wrote in the Spiritual Food 1407:
MORE THAN EVERY BEFORE THE WORLD NEEDS THESE SPIRITUAL TREASURES OF GRACE AND GUIDANCE! This is similar to how so many families in Italy put the first priority in being together at table, at supper, while avoiding as taboo disagreements due to differences in belief in the Catholic religion or Catholic morality. In the USA, this would be analogous to setting aside the Truth in order to be “politically correct”! For the great majority of Catholics today, the first priority is human respect, and what God desires for our true good is not even considered.

THE ANGUISH OF THE PROPHET: “I have become a laughingstock all the day; every one mocks me” (Jer 20:7).

In my homily for November 1, 2013 at the cemetery of the parish I gave A FEW STRONG REPROACHES when I saw that at that Mass at the cemetery of the parish, there were more than 100 people, but at the Sunday Mass, there were less than 20. I said to them: “For your mother or your grandmother here in the cemetery, more than 100 people, but for Jesus Who gave you your mother and your grandmother and all the rest, less than 20 people at the Sunday Mass; it seems to me that it has become a religion of the dead instead of the living. Without gratitude, there is no salvation!...”
(If you understand Italian, you can read more at: “Attirare la Gente, a Chi?” (http://cibo-spir.blogspot.it/2014/01/attirare-la-gente-chi.html).

Is it not also necessary to welcome those who suffer much due to the diffusion of pornography? To read about my struggle against the selling of PORNOGRAPHY and the indifference of the owners of a bar in Italy, visit:

LET US WELCOME THE BROTHER WITH THE MOTIVE FOR HIS TRUE GOOD, which sometimes will not be what the brother wants and we will be even treated very badly (like Jesus and the prophets) for our true love and welcome of the brother!

An Experience of Life:

I work in a prison, where there are difficulties. One evening, as I was leaving having completed my shift, I heard some cries. I kept walking because I was tired and wanted to get home right away, but screams continued. I thought: "No need to return, those who shift is now beginning will take care of it ...". But then I began to think; it could be something serious. In fact, some policemen were beating a man so that he might confess something that he did not know.

As soon as I entered they stopped, because they know that I do not agree with these methods. I stopped to talk with them and the atmosphere became more peaceful.

I accompanied the man in his cell, I washed him and I treated his wounds. Eventually it was discovered that he had nothing to do with the story and had not committed any crime. It was let go from prison. As he left the prison he hugged me crying. We remained very good friends.

A supplement to this “Spiritual Food 1409”, from the 100-page booklet, "Saint Veronica Giuliani - True Disciple and Apostle of Mary”, by Fr. Emmanuele of the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary.

Part Two: Her Doctrine and Teaching
Chapter One: “The infinite and unspeakable love of God”
(Pp. 53-60)

God is love (1Jn 4.8). And the truth most "true" - in the sense of the obvious - the most beautiful and comforting. It is the basis of the whole spiritual structure and of faith of the Christians, but also of all of mankind. God is love! God is good: "Only God is good" (Lk 18:19). He created everything for love and with love, and "does not despise anything that He has created" (Wis 11:24). It is the first encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI: “Deus caritas est”.

A true vision of God - especially after Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word, true God and true Man, born as a baby and died poor for us, forgiving us and excusing us on the Cross – one cannot doubt the fact that the whole history of mankind, and of every person, should be read with this in mind: I have a good Father in heaven, Who is love in Himself, who is my father, Who watches over me, Who turns everything into good if I believe in Him, in His Word, if I turn to Him, if I place my trust in Him, if I invite Him to do so.

Without this vision of children who trust in God, you can not enter heaven: "Unless your turn and become like children, your will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Mt 18:3). Now this Kingdom is Love in itself, it is the light in itself, it is peace in itself.

This is what the life of St. Veronica wants us to understand. She, trusting in God, knowing well her nothingness, in fact the nothingness of every creature before the "whole" of the Creator, was lead to "swim in God", to "merge herself in God" in Love to the point of concluding her blessed existence with these words, already quoted: "Love allowed Itself to be found! This is the secret of my suffering! Tell everyone, tell everyone!"

Yes, only for love one accepts and one understands suffering.

Why is that?

Because God is Holy; and eternal life is union with God, with "The Holy One", with Holiness Itself. We can not unite ourselves with Him, if we are still stained. That is the reason for pain, for suffering, that cleanses us in order to unite ourselves to God, to merge ourselves and bask in Him for all eternity; but even now, in the measure of our acceptance and tolerance of this purification, due to sin.

With this in mind, humble and true, one understands the judgment of God on the first man, after original sin, should not be seen as punishment, but as a remedy: it is the indispensable way for the purification of the disastrous effects of sin.

That is also the reason of purgatory, toward which - in the words of the Saint – the happy souls run, in spite of the pains, to purify themselves and be able to enjoy as soon as possible the embrace of an eternal God so beautiful, so good, so pure, so Holy. The souls in purgatory behave like this because they have seen, in the particular judgment immediately after death, the truth of this good God, merciful, offended by sins, and have seen clearly the horror of sin that stains the soul, rendering it unable to draw near to "The Holy One".

It is this that the experience of Saint Veronica reveals to us better. Happy are we if, despite not seeing, believe in this: "Blessed are those who believe without seeing" (Jn 20:29).

This is also the motive of the same hell, which is not punishment, but it is an inevitable consequence for those who refuse this love, who do not believe, who do not accept to let themselves be purified, who do not want the "order" established by God for eternal Life, by way of His Commandments and His laws which are laws of life, of love, and neglecting them they loose their life because they refuse to accept the rules of Heaven.

God, in His infinite love, does not compel man Who He created free (because in His image and likeness), but neither to destroy it, because life is a gift, and "the gifts of God are irrevocable" (Rom 11:29), but teaching him the Truth, invites man to choose life: "I have put before you life and death; choose life” (Dt 30:19); and in this truth, He presents to him also hell, not to threaten him, but to let him know the result of his choices, of his disobedience, to help him reject sin, to push him to fight, for his own good ... thus He presents this to him "out of love, out of mercy, for justice", so that no man may one day complaining of God, accusing Him of not having made it known this, to have left him in the dark, without the light of the full truth.

Here is the important role of Saint Veronica! Here is her contribution to the “triumph of love” Yes, God is Love; yes, Heaven is stupendous; but, at the same time there is also hell for those who do not believe in Heaven, for those who do not think about it and do not desire it and do not want to sacrifice certain vanities to earn it for themselves, for those who reject this Love, which is also order, obedience: "If a man loves me, he will keep my word" (John 14:23). "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's Who sent Me” (Jn 14:24).

But the devil and our human proud nature want to make us see things in reverse.

And why is this?

The devil, because he is the "father of lies" (Jn 8:44), hates us and wants us to believe that God is not Love if he creates hell, or, even worse, that God is false - as with Eve (Gen 3.5) - and that hell does not exist.

Our human nature, because it is haughty, self-sufficient and undisciplined and seeks a false freedom that does not want to submit to the laws of God, because it is wounded and weak and does not want to leave out the delights, the so-called "pleasures" joys ...

Yes, man is created for happiness, and therefore he seeks it spontaneously; but reading the writings of the Saint, and marveling about this reigning God, dominant, active, infinite ocean of love, light, peace ... we will begin to see much more as petty and ephemeral our "joys", our "pleasures", to see rather their dangers, the poison hidden as in the fruit of the Garden of Eden that was “nice and pleasant" (Gen 2:6), and to convince ourselves of the vanity of this passing world; and then we will begin to say with St. Francis: "So much is the good that waits for me, that every pain is a delight to me”.

How true are these words! How well the Saint lived them!

She, too, by excess of light and love and knowledge of God, wept as St. Francis because "Love is not loved." She wanted to run through the whole world to cry out that God is Love, God the Creator, Redeemer, Who, by His nature, can not but give, love, even to madness, to the folly of the cross that Veronica touched and described; and to shout also penance and conversion, in order to enjoy this: "Repent, the Kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mt 3:2).

Let us help to bring forth this anguished cry by citing some passages of this "love poem" almost unique that is sprinkled in the Diary of this "chosen one among the chosen”:

- "... The more the abyss of my nothingness is deep, the more I rest in the consideration of the divine attributes. I pause on that of mercy and, as in a mirror, I see with what kind of love God has loved me and still loves me. I hope in this love ...”.

- "I have experienced love. My soul is immersed in the immensity of this sea; love transforms my soul in love itself. My soul is in God. God is in my soul. God speaks with the voice of silence, the soul responds, but its response is the echo of God's voice, which in her loves herself. It seems that my soul, with love, knows God in God Himself and shares His eternal happiness. God draws the soul to Himself with transport, impulses, raptures, fruits of love, and the new knowledge of God produces a new transformation in God. "

- "O Father of my life, Spouse of my soul, heart of my heart, return into my heart!... stars that shine before Him, tell Him that I languish with love ...".

God enjoyed the ardor of the Saint, He would return, He consoled her: "I am Love in person; I love you and I carry you in my heart. My Heart is the life of yours. You are the Bride of My Heart. "He asks her: "This heart that I see in your chest, whose is it?”. "Yours or the Lord." "Then I take it." And He places it on the Heart of Mary who is present; then He puts it on His chest. "And now which is My heart?", He asks the Saint. And Jesus replied, "Your heart is Me ... I have transformed you into Me; you have become Myself".

How many times she would arrive to union: first she speaks of "the closest union" in which the soul feels attracted as iron by the magnet, sweetly "tied", "flooded" in the ocean of God's love; later she will add the experience of feeling "uniformed", "transformed" in God; and in the last stage, when she receives in each communion the "grace of the three graces", she will reach the peak of the wise ones of union of the blessed in heaven: it is the moment of "intimate communications" which pass between God and the soul, thus ineffable. “You can not describe them”, "she affirms, but she succeeds in referring to the confessor the effects that they leave in the whole person.

"... in a moment it seemed that the Divine Love was infused in my whole soul; and it became the same thing with the Divine Love ... I do not know if I was in heaven or on earth; I had cognition of myself, it seemed to me that I was the most vile worm of the earth ... I saw that I was nothing. To this was added the sight of so much ingratitude ... a God so beneficial, so great, so merciful to have been so offended by an ungrateful creature! ... I was absorbed in God ... I saw the divine attributes of God .. . God was my memory, God was my understanding, God was my will; all God in the soul, and my whole soul in God. What I felt in these moments, one can not express ... my soul remained more detached away from all that is not God ...it seemed to me to be in a furnace ..."

"The humanity (of the person) suffers so much in these operations of Divine Love ... it wanted to complain ... but it was placid, and the spirit cried aloud, O Love! O Love! O Love, so little known by the creatures and by me, in particular! No, No; I will no longer be like this, because I want only You and with You I remain ...

- "... the soul has experienced in itself, at that point, certain operations of Divine Love ... I seemed to notice that God in His infinite immensity of love that manifested itself in this soul; and it, by way of those intimate communications between God and the soul, remained wholly united to the Supreme Good ... it was all, in all, transformed in its God of love ... and the same love operated within it, and for it all immersed in God Who communicated all to it ... these things you can never explain with words ... I only say that the soul, at that point, remains so absorbed in God, that, having returned to its feelings , everything seems new to it! Oh! What a pain it is to see itself imprisoned in this mortal body! There remains a nausea of all earthly things ...

- "... while the soul was all swimming in the vast sea of the Divinity, in that instant, there was represented before the soul my Jesus, in the way that He came into the light in order to redeem us sinners ... at that point there was something in this soul I could not understand; it seemed to me I changed into another; and it seems to me that, at that same point, God put me in Himself and filled this heart and this soul full of love. I felt certain impulses that lifted me from myself, and at the same time I felt like I wholly united to the Supreme Good".

Dear reader, the Diary is extremely full of this sublime language. To get to so great a good, it is worth some penance, some abstinence, some detachment… in a word, purification.

And if it will not be possible to imitate the Saint in many things, may God will it that these writings help us to humble ourselves deeply, realizing to what sublime levels that God calls and draws man, created in His image and likeness, and how instead we are still crawling in the mud of false pleasures that the world and the prince of this world offers. And this humility will be the first step ... and God, in His love, will help us do more ...

"No more senses, no more humanity;
God only: this I want to love.
Come all, oh foolish creatures, come,
love the highest Good:
come, sinners,
convert yourselves to God.
He is the greatest charity,
His mercy is infinite:
stop offending Him,
come back to God.
He is all love;
He will give you His same love,
to those who might love Him.
Look!
As He does with me,
He will do also with you;
come all".

Sirach 28:2

“Forgive your neighbor the wrong he has done, and then your sins will be pardoned when you pray” (Sir 28:2).

Many are happy to read this verse from the Sacred Scriptures: Sir 28:2 (along with: Ps 103:3; Wis 11:23; Is 38:17; etc.). The mercy of God is very important, indeed crucial, and even the most important attribute of God.. It is not by chance that in this most difficult period God has offered to us the Divine Mercy, by way of Saint Faustina.

But the devil is cunning; he wants to deny or cancel, or at least diminish, this great gift from God to men. Those who pray and study little are not used to opening their eyes to discover the snares of the devil, and therefore do not have the defences for these subtle traps of our very intelligent enemy. Our enemy slowly leads us to false mercy without our commitment to repent or to change our lives.

We say in the Act of Contrition: "I promise with the help of Thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasions of sin"! Many religious leaders today speak of this mercy of God, that pleases the people, but do not add the words that Jesus said, "'Go, and sin no more" (John 8:11), or do not finish the story of the sick man healed by Jesus Who said after the healing, "See, you are well! Sin no more, that nothing worse befall you"(Jn 5:14)!

If one habitually speak only that God is all merciful without speaking or communicating, in the same speech and in the same context, “go and sin no more”, as Jesus did in the Gospels (John 5:14; 8:11), there is a great tendency to take the easy way out by not trying to change ones own life with the help of God. Unless we respond to the great gift of God's forgiveness, our love is insincere and inauthentic, and therefore the words of the Our Father that we say with our mouths are empty and ineffective: "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us" (Matthew 6:12). How many people do not live, "Freely you have received, freely give" (Mt 10,8)?!? Without gratitude, there is no salvation!

An Experience of Life:

After two years of marriage, our daughter was going through a period of crisis. At the beginning of this year, she and her husband separated. We welcomed her back into our house, trying to support her in this difficult and painful period. There were moments of tension, but we tried to keep calm, with forgiveness in the heart, maintaining a relationship of openness towards them both. We wanted to help them both, not favoring only our daughter on her side. After three months of separation (and on our part, hospitality, continuous listening, discreet help and many prayers), they returned back together with a new awareness and a confident hope.

A supplement to this “Spiritual Food 1408”:

In a world immersed in the poison of relativism, which according to Pope Benedict XVI, "the most profound difficulty of our time" and which leads the world to "letting oneself be tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine, seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times”, I thought I would offer you a few pages (pp. 49-52) from the 100-page booklet, "Saint Veronica Giuliani - True Disciple and Apostle of Mary”, by Fr. Emmanuele of the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary. It is a little bit long, but one might use these pages as points of further meditation!

Part Two: Her Doctrine and Teaching
Introduction

Now that the readers have been able to (pp. 1-48), in a sense, "touch" the level of holiness quite unique to this seraphic Saint, and see the immensity of the divine riches hidden in her life and in her diary, the readers will share with father Iriarte that "before the case of Veronica Giuliani, one cannot have neither the attitude of a pseudo-spirituality that chases after the extraordinary, nor the scientist who does not succeed in perceiving anything but clinical pictures, but we must have the attitude of Moses before the bush that burned without being consumed: "I will go and see this great sight" (Ex 3, 3).

The readers will also share his claim that "the ecstatic Capuchin of Città di Castello is a special case even among the saints. It is, first of all because of the multiplicity and singularity of her mystical experiences: there is no phenomenon of soul or body, of the records in the hagiography, which she has not already gone through and described; and has been favored, different from others, absolutely unknown. Exceptional is also her vocation to participate in the sufferings of Christ and the mystery of pain ... no one has ever rejoiced and suffered so intensely”.

Now we can begin to grasp the scope of the words of Cardinal Palazzini: "The mission of St. Veronica has yet to begin in the Church" that this second part will make even more obvious; a mission that the Lord Himself has stated thus: "What do you think? These writings have to go into all the world, for my glory and for the benefit of souls"(Diary). He affirms even more: "That of Veronica is a great prophetic message that seems reserved for our times: to correct dangerous deviations of those who go in search of a Christianity without the Cross, of those who sink in the abundance of those consumer goods which Christ preached moderation for all, and the renunciation for the strong "(Card. Palazzini).

But it is also, and above all, a prophetic message against rationalism and the Enlightenment which, consciously or not, try to empty the faith of its supernatural dimension: the reason is bewildered before the irruption of the Divine in the everyday living and writing of the Saint, in undeniable corporeal phenomena, inexplicable, repeated. It is God Himself who through a harmless woman wanted to refute, already from that time - and even more so today - rationalism to the point of rendering it ridiculous before the evidence. If it is true that faith and reason do not contradict each other, it is equally true that reason is a gift of God in the service of the faith but it must recognize its limitations and bow its heads before the Divine.

Even Lumen Gentium states that "God shows to men, in a vivid way, His presence and His face in the lives of those companions of ours in the human condition who are more perfectly transformed into the image of Christ. He speaks to us in them and offers us a sign of this kingdom …” (n. 50).

THE DOCTRINE EXPRESSED IN THE DIARY PROMPTS US TO SAY:

--- How much it is necessary today her example of absolute faith in obedience to God and to His Holy Church; already as a teacher, she taught the novices the Catechism even before their spirituality; she firmly wrote: "I believe what the Roman Church believes"; but especially obedience to God's representatives: superiors, confessors and ecclesial authorities which she called "God's deputies on earth," so much so that, for example, the wound of her heart opened and closed according to the will of obedience, and that the scenes of the Passion were renewed at will of her superiors ... to the point of healing and dying - as we have seen – out of obedience; for her obedience to her confessor became as "the seal of fidelity to God and to the Blessed Virgin Mary", to the point of signing with the name of "daughter of obedience."

--- And how much we need to deepen her humility: so holy, she resorted to the intercession of the saints, begging them; seeing her "nothingness" before God, she considered herself unworthy to be with her sisters, and even more to be abbess. How much it cost her to write about herself in her diary, and she felt embarrassed of "these outward signs," that is the stigmata, asking God to conceal them; truly seeking the way of hiding ... Blessed is she! How many lessons for vain men, the prideful today, who go in search of power, of esteem, of vainglory ... Most Holy Mary once said to her: "My daughter, know that, when the angel Gabriel came to give me this proclamation, from God Almighty, I was knowledgeable of my baseness and cowardice; and this is the exercise that I give to you. Remain always humiliated and annihilated below everyone, as vile mud and dust. "

--- How much we need her love and loyalty to holy poverty, which cost her a lot of hostility and misunderstanding ...? When she found abuses, she often felt the reproaches of Saint Francis and Saint Clare: and so she would use both sweetness, and firmness, always with prudence, and she triumphed ... She considered poverty as the essential condition to arrive to love. Her example is a living reproach to the pursuit of wealth and abundance in which we live today, often even among religious.

--- How much we need her devotion and piety:

- to the Holy Trinity, already as a child, as we have seen, even to deserve to be called by the Blessed Virgin Mary "Daughter of the Father, Bride of the Son, Disciple of the Holy Spirit." The saint writes: "In doing adoration of the Most Holy Trinity my soul was confirmed as daughter, spouse and disciple of the three Divine Persons ... ".

- And to the Holy Eucharist, this "great invention of love," as she called It, to which she resorted to ask the most difficult graces, obtaining permission to receive Him every day; and how often she received Him from the hands of the Angels ... or from Most Holy Mary ... One must look in the mirror of the Diary to understand how little reverence and so much superficiality we approach the Sacred today, and how little faith in the real and working presence of God in this wonderful Sacrament, even to the limits of desecration ... How important it was for her the way to receive Him! All ... all the spiritual fruits depended on this. She used to say, "Whenever we receive Him in the Blessed Sacrament, God is reborn in the souls of the righteous who, with the heart ,serve Him and receive Him with purity." It is enough to remember that she was raptured into union with God after almost every Communion …

- And what of her prayer? How much she tried to perfect it! It is enough to remember that she saw, one night, the Lord who was sitting along side of the other nuns in choir reciting the morning prayers with the community, seen only by her; Jesus offered that prayer in reparation for the faults and imperfections committed by the Saint in the liturgical prayer of the Divine Office ...

But it would take too long to move forward. Therefore, we focus in this second part on the four aspects which seemed to us, along with the refutation of rationalism, the most current and necessary:

1. The infinite and unspeakable love of God;

2. The frightening reality of hell and the demons;

3. The doctrine of the atonement;

4. The indispensable role of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

In the next few “Spiritual Food”, I will translate these four aspects.

Matthew 18:19-20

‘Truly I tell you, if two of you agree on earth about anything you ask, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them’ (Mt 18:19-20).

Dear friends, recently I had an interesting experience. A month ago a friend named Marcello, sent me an message on my cell phone, asking me if it were possible to meet each other at Loreto (Italy) where there was to be held the monthly Prayer Cenacle of the “Marian Movement of Priests” June 2, with 5 regions from Italy of the MMP (founded by Father Stefano Gobbi; visit: “Funeral Stefano Gobbi”; http://spir-food.blogspot.com/2011/07/funeral-stefano-gobbi.html). I knew his father, Roberto, from Città di Castello, Italy. After having spoken together and having lunch together, Marcello offered to me a booklet, “Saint Veronica Giuliani – True Disciple and Apostle of Mary” (Città di Castello). The booklet of about 100 pages made a strong impression on me and I began using it as material for my daily meditation. A week ago I participated in the Spiritual Exercises (June 22-28, 2014) at Collevalenza (Todi – PG; founded by the newly beatified, Mother Speranza) of the Marian Movement of Priests with about 200 priests and 10 bishops from around the world. I spoke with a priest about this booklet on Saint Veronica, and this priest told me that there was a Frate, a Deacon, from Lebanon, who founded a new congregation, all approved by his Bishop in Lebanon, “Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary”, tied also to the spirituality and message of Saint Veronica. I found and spoke with this Frate and we exchanged phone numbers and among other things, he told me that Padre Pio had explained why the two attempts to make Saint Veronica a doctor of the Church, after her death on July 9, 1727, failed because the mission of Saint Veronica will be accomplished in these our times. Padre Pio said that Saint Veronica is one of the greatest saints in the history of the Church, even though up to now, she is little known!

Cardinal Peter Palazzini wrote: “The mission of Saint Veronica must still begin in the Church… It is necessary to concentrate on the aspect of expiation, which is dealt with a lot in the Diary of the Saint and that she gives us the justification to point her out as a distinguished Master of the doctrine of expiation… The Diary is a catechism, a doctorate, and permanent mission, that the Church of the Second Vatican Council cannot nor must not ignore, if it wants to give a foundation to all of its energies of renewal. A solemn gesture of the Church could give to the saving message of the Saint the launch that it merits.”

Pope Pius XII wrote: “… Veronica Giuliani is a luminary so great of sanctity that she would suffice to illustrate the Church, before the sneers of scorn and of the slander of the most proud and mordant philosophy of the incredulous people.”

Frate Emmanuele works 3 to 4 months each year in Italy and the rest of the year in Lebanon promoting the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and the message for our times of Saint Veronica. I telephoned Frate Emmanuele to schedule a visit of his in our zone. The day after, while I was doing my meditation in church before the tabernacle with the booklet of Saint Veronica, I decide to look for the first time who was the author of the booklet. I discovered that the booklet was written by “Fr. Emmanuele del Cuore Immacolato e Addolorato di Maria”! One sees the hand of Our Lady and of Saint Veronica in these happenings!

The 26th of June 2014 at the retreat at Collevalenza, Frate Emmanuele offered to us 200 priests and 10 bishops the afternoon meditation. He spoke of the importance to take seriously the request of Our Lady of Fatima about the consecration to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Among other things, Frate Emmanuele said during the meditation:

It is also enough to realize that Portugal is the only nation that was able to accomplish this consecration (solemnly, with the participation of its ecclesiastical and temporal leaders), and only when the Second World War was raging on, the church with Pope Pius XII considered to make the first consecration of the world to the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1942 (Sister Lucy…): the invisible enemy, the great dragon, watches over well, one sees, his own interests. He really is afraid of the “Woman clothed with the sun” (Rev 12:1) and her message, especially of the consecration. He wants to prevent it at all costs, and with all means, especially by the blinding of certain ecclesiastical leaders, unfortunately.”

Thus, the consecration of Lebanon to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, which occurred June 16, 2013, 95 years after the apparitions of Fatima, cannot be but an event of maximum importance in this dour combat, described by Pope John Paul II as “Definitive and Final”.”

It is an event that must not pass unobserved, but rather enter into the reading of the “signs of the times”, and merits to be deeply meditated and valued well in order to gather in the global importance, and to gather in all the fruits that heaven desires; and this especially on the part of the MMP, chosen instrument founded by the Heavenly Mother herself for the triumph of the message of Fatima, or rather the triumph of her Immaculate Heart, by way of the diffusion of the consecration.”

I spoke with other priests from Lebanon during the meals together at Collevalenza and they told me that in Lebanon there is no war as in the rest of the Middle East. Also a bishop, of the Marionite Rite, in Syria, consecrated his diocese, together with his priests and a great number of lay people, and in that diocese there is no war even though there is war all around in the country of Syria!

Dear friends, in the next “Spiritual Food” I will tell you more about these events that are unfolding now and perhaps also a few paragraphs from the booklet on Saint Veronica Giuliani.

Until the next episode!

An Experience of Life:

We almost begin to smile when we think about the fact that many of our most beautiful experiences happen in public places frequented by many people that one knows only by sight or even those never seen before. And so also this time the certainty that God loves us immensely came by way of a simple gesture of love which happened in a supermarket.

I was approaching the counter of cold cuts and I was getting ready to take the infamous numbered ticket which is supposed to avoid discussions among customers in the queue, when I realized that the person before me did not take it at all. This person, perhaps a bit embarrassed, noticed the lack thereof and decides to go back at the end of the queue and take the ticket. Without much thought, I offered my ticket which I had just pulled out. He was astonished and amazed and looking at me, gave back to me the ticket saying: "For this gesture, I'll give up my place. Go in ahead since after all you have a baby in your arms”. Then turning to the butcher who had witnessed the scene, said aloud: "I have never met before a person so kind."

Returning home after arranging the groceries I noticed on the bottom of the bag of sausages a small package. I opened it and I was surprised to find a cut of pork from the neck as a complimentary gift. I understood immediately that it was God's answer to this simple and perhaps trivial gesture of kindness but done with love and attention and that it is precisely this that people need to encounter.

P.s.

How can one live the Word of Life for this month (Mt 18:19-20) if “two of you” or more, ARE NOT IN AGREEMENT ABOUT THE TRUTH ITSELF, or if they are in agreement only about easy truths but not about the uncomfortable divine truths which indicate to us that we must change our lives and suffer with Jesus crucified?!? This would be false unity, false love, misguided compassion, because it is not based on the incarnate Truth Who is Jesus Christ (Jn 14:6)! To set aside or to sacrifice the treasures of the “truth that will set you free” (Jn 8:32), so that we can be together with those who do not want to respect the beliefs of others, is FALSE ECUMENISM!?!

The founder of Christendom College (USA), Dr. Warren Carroll, wrote that ecumenism is important, but properly understood is “not an ecumenism in which you would abandon convictions in truth which would be superficial and meaningless agreements, but developing an ecumenism built solidly on real conviction and truth.”

How often in the name of false mercy and false ecumenism, WE CATHOLICS ARE BEING PUSHED AND COERCED AND MANIPULATED with beautiful words and slogans and nice lies to put aside the saving truth and the primary means of sanctification, expressed infallibly in the doctrines of the Church, and offered in the Sacraments.

In USA, this would be analogous to setting aside the Truth in order to be “politically correct”! For the great majority of Catholics today, the first priority is human respect, and what God desires for our true good is not even considered.

As I wrote in the “Spiritual Food” of April 2014, “WE ARE LIVING IN ONE OF THE MOST CONFUSING TIMES IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD AND OF THE CHURCH; this confusion has been well orchestrated by the puppets of the father of lies (Jn 8:44) especially in recent times, due to the great lack of prayer and almost total disregard for sin.”

These puppets have worked with great patience, in particular in the last 50 years, taking control of the motors of the culture (the mass media, the schools and the religious institutions) in order to brainwash us in a stronger way than in the history of the world. Thus a great number of people do not realize the great danger, they do not struggle to open their eyes and willingly remain in the easier philosophy of life: “Ignorance is bliss”! If we allow to be able to change a doctrine of the Church, in principle, we open the door to change all the infallible doctrines of the Church which come from the Absolute Truth! BEHOLD THE MORTAL HIDDEN POISON IN THE NAME OF CHARITY (FALSE), in the name of misguided compassion!

I put together the last few “Spiritual Food” in order to help us better to look again, globally, all together, TO HELP US REALIZE BETTER THE UNDERHANDED TRAPS OF THE DEVIL in all times, but in particular in our times. With the preparation of the puppets of Satan, very few Catholics, and unfortunately bishops and cardinals, realize that to allow to be able to change one doctrine of the Church, which opens the door to the rest, will be more devastating to the immortal souls and thus to the whole world than, … we cannot imagine! If we do not study, with much prayer, we remain without defence, we do not recognize the traps of the devil today and we end up putting our foot and our head in these traps which appear beautiful on the outside and afterwards it is very difficult to pull out our foot and our head, and thus our immortal soul!

Matthew 28:20

‘And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age’ (Mt 28:20).

These words of Jesus are consoling. But this promise of Jesus is always CONTINGENT UPON OUR FREE CHOICE, to decide to put ourselves under the easy yoke and the light burden (Mt 11:30) of the law of God. God Who is love, respects our great dignity and thus our free choice.

Continuing from the last two or three months, THE FUNDAMENTAL BATTLE OF ALL TIMES is who establishes the truth, God or the world, God or Satan, God or each person? This battle will increase even more in the next few years before the second coming or Jesus Christ. Lucifer said, I am God, I decide the Truth, and Saint Michael the Archangel replied with his name: “Who is like unto God?” Original Sin was the same deception: “But the serpent said to the woman, "You will not die. For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil".” Many modern philosophers led us into the “COPERNICAN REVOLUTION” of not seeking anymore reality and the truth outside of ourselves by way of our five senses but inside of ourselves, as if each one of us “will be like God”. “Abandoning the investigation of being, modern philosophical research has concentrated instead upon human knowing. …” (No. 5; Encyclical Letter: Fides et Ratio; John Paul II; 09-14-1998). In this fierce and underhanded battle, it is very important to be “wise as serpents” and not just “innocent as doves” (Mt 10:16)!

I DO NOT IDENTIFY WITH the expressionless faces of those who recite the Rosary outside the clinics who practice interruption of pregnancy” [“l’interruzione della gravidanza”] (an interview published by “Quotidiano Nazionale”, May 12, 2014). IT IS UNBELIEVABLE that these words were pronounced by the new (12-30-2013) GENERAL SECRETARY OF THE ITALIAN EPISCOPAL CONFERENCE, MONSIGNOR NUNZIO GALANTINO!

It would be nice if the secretary of the CEI might try to reflect on the words of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta: “I feel the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a direct war, a direct killing - direct murder by the mother herself. … Because if a mother can kill her own child - what is left for me to kill you and you to kill me - there is nothing between”.

But Galantino did not limit himself to a critique of the pro-life movement. Asked, “What is your wish for the Italian Church,” GALANTINO RESPONDED, “That we can talk without taboo about any subject, of married priests, of giving the Eucharist to divorced persons, homosexuality, starting with the Gospel and giving reasons for their positions.”

If we allow to be able to change a doctrine of the Church, in principle, we open the door to change all the infallible doctrines of the Church. BEHOLD THE MORTAL HIDDEN POISON in the name of charity (false)!

To recall the context of this situation, visit the recent “Spiritual Food”:

Dear brothers and sisters, in these difficult times full of confusion, remember that this presence of Jesus “always, to the end of the age” is above all in the Eucharist.
THE EUCHARIST IS “THE SOURCE AND SUMMIT OF THE CHRISTIAN LIFE”.” (CCC 1324).

Did you know that after BLESSED FRANCIS (Francesco) OF FATIMA received the Eucharist from the Angel of Portugal, Francis understood the greatness of the reality of Jesus present in the Eucharist and he spent three hours everyday before the Tabernacle up to his death about a year later.

SAINT JOHN OF KENTY: “Each day, when he had finished his work, he would go straight from the college to the church. There before Christ present in the Eucharist he would spend long hours in prayer and contemplation. The God of whom he spoke was the same God who was in his heart.” (Breviary; Dicember 23).

An Experience of Life:

One night while leaving the house to go and pray the Rosary, I met a couple of immigrants: they appeared to be worn out (they had walked all day in vain in the city in search of work and help, and they had not eaten anything). He, Romanian, declares that he is an orthodox believer, while she, Ukrainian, with some faith, not specified.

I understood immediately that I could not make them wait, or delegate to others the intervention. The Word of the Gospel: "I have come to bring fire ...", at that moment became to me an inspiration to act decisively. I brought them in my car to the reception house, "The Samaritan", not far away, but we were told that it was not equipped for the reception of women. So, respecting the desire of the couple to stay together, I thought of a solution with a family in the parish. And immediately I thought of Rita, a widowed friend of ours who, being alone, gives time and even logging to the brothers in difficulty.

I telephoned her, and quickly I heard the response: “"It's okay: we welcome Jesus in these brothers." Also for her it is the Word which suggests every gesture. Beautiful, affectionate welcome in her house: a bit of relaxation and rest, at last, and then a dinner, improvised as much as appreciated and consumed without reservations or concerns ...

Leaving then those brothers for the night in a comfortable and tidy double bed, I arranged with Rita for the following morning. And so, already before 8 in the morning I went to pick them up to do what was possible to find work in the seasonal jobs. After a few phone calls we had to give up. Nothing doing.

They too realized the situation and, resigned, then asked me to take them to the station for the return trip. They were disappointed but more serene and grateful for the concrete love received. I gave them an offering (in order to ... love as much as possible) and I greeted them, sorry for not being able to do more. They responded to me, moved, with a big hug, which told me how much the lived Word reaches the truth of the people.

2 Corinthians 5:20

“On behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Cor 5:20).

FIFTY YEARS AGO THE MAJORITY OF CHRISTIANS WERE IN AGREEMENT that sin is determined according to divine revelation for all human beings created by God, and not according to human sentiments, or feelings, or subjectivism, or relativism of each person. How can one “be reconciled to God” when we do not know and we do not want to know what is a sin according to God?

SIN HAS ATTACKED THE “HIERARCHY OF VALUES”. Man wants to be God. Man’s body revolts against his soul, and the soul capitulates and rejects the primacy of the spirit. Thus bodily feelings dominate the mind, and both dominate the spirit. Morality become topsy-turvy, confused and relativistic. The natural law of God is rejected. Unnatural relationships become fashionable and claim the same rights as natural relationships. Divine revelation and law are rejected; our civilization declines and falls.

RELATIVISM, according to Pope Benedict XVI, is "the most profound difficulty of our time." (http://popebenedictxviblog.blogspot.it/2005_05_01_archive.html). In his homily at the Mass preceding the conclave that quickly elected him Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Ratzinger said: “Today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be "tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine", seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. WE ARE BUILDING A DICTATORSHIP OF RELATIVISM that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires.” (http://www.vatican.va/gpII/documents/homily-pro-eligendo-pontifice_20050418_en.html; http://www.ignatiusinsight.com/features2005/colson_relativism_may05.asp).

WHEN SOME PRIESTS CRITICIZE ME because I have “a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church”, they never say to me that I have made a mistake according to some document of the Church; I would be very happy if they did so! And when I presented to them what some of the documents of the Church or writings of the Popes indicated to explain my position, I do not recall even one time that one of these priest ever saying to me that he would like to read this document so as to seek the truth together, but instead, a priori, they criticize me, judge me and condemn me without even looking at these documents!?! Spoiled children say: “It’s not true, it’s not right” without offering an explanation accompanied by documents. Instead adults, mature people say “it’s not right”, but they offer an explanation accompanied by documents. If what I say is not totally in agreement with the personal relativism of these priests, that which I offer is criticized and refused immediately a priori. These same priests, instead, accused me of selecting the documents that I like and throwing out the rest, which is their way of projecting their relativism on me, of indicating that I too am a relativist like everyone else and so let us all be happy in relativism! This seems to me somewhat similar to a child who says to his parents to shut up because they too are sinners.

EVEN THE MAJORITY OF THE PRIESTS AND BISHOPS ARE NO LONGER IN AGREEMENT THAT THERE EXISTS THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH outside of ourselves upon which to base a dialogue in order to arrive at a conclusion. Everyone happily has their own opinion about fundamental truths, of what is good and evil, just as Adam and Eve after the Original Sin (Gen 3:4-5). But this leads us to the “DICTATORSHIP OF RELATIVISM” because the laws will no longer be based on divine revelation in which the strong help the weak, but on who is the strongest and can impose his laws on all the rest. Might makes right, as in hell!

Today a great number of Catholics want, with the blessing (at least tacitly) of the priests and bishops, A CHRISTIANITY WITHOUT THE CROSS AND WITHOUT THESE “GUILT COMPLEXES” THAT WERE CALLED SIN. And thus very few Catholics today go to confession and many go to the psychiatrists which costs much more than to confess ones sins to a priest, who often, unfortunately, is not found in the confessional in the churches.

But many who still go to confession , do not understand anymore what is a sin according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, a great gift the Pope John Paul II gave to us in 1992! The secretary of the Congregation for Clergy, Archbishop Mauro Piacenza, has lamented that many faithful no longer confess their sins. Archbishop Piacenza told Vatican Radio (June 5, 2009) the sacrament of penance has been experiencing a "deep crisis" for decades. Piacenza, an official for the Vatican office on clergy, says FEWER PEOPLE DISTINGUISH BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL, and as a result do not go to confession. The archbishop said in an interview that if faithful do not have a sense of sin, they might "CONFUSE" CONFESSION WITH "THE COUCH OF A PSYCHOLOGIST OR A PSYCHIATRIST." He says the Vatican plans to publish this year (2009) a “vademecum for confessors and spiritual directors”. (http://www.cathnews.com/article.aspx?aeid=14231).

I added to the last “Spiritual Food” the following paragraphs:

Regarding the wild proposals of Cardinal Kasper made before the last Consistory of Cardinals regarding legitimizing by way of Eucharistic communion the "remarriage" of divorced couples (we could call the Kasper Doctrine of "mariages sauvages"), Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, Archbishop of Bologna, had the firmest possible words in an interview to Matteo Matzuzzi published this Saturday in Il Foglio: …”

Our Lady of Akita, Japan (1973): “The work of the devil will infiltrate even the Church in such a way that one will see CARDINALS OPPOSING CARDINALS, bishops against other bishops. The priests who venerate Me will be scorned and opposed by their conferees… churches and altars sacked, the Church will be full of those who accept compromise …” (http://www.miraclerosarymission.org/akita.htm).

DEAR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, “On behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God”, but according to God’s criteria and NOT MAN’S CRITERIA!

An Experience of Life:

We have 3 children, who we love very much. When David and Irene were born, like all babies they required of us a lot of energy in order to find a new equilibrium in our family. But with Alessia, the third child, it was a special adventure. She was born apparently sound and beautiful, but after a few days, from the first examinations of the chromosomal map we knew that she had Down syndrome. There were difficult moments and unconsciously we were hoping in an error in the diagnosis. It was like an unexpected earthquake, as if the rug was pulled out from under our feet… But we wanted to believe that every child is a gift of God and – even in sorrow – we felt that this situation was part of His design of love. After a few days, a geneticist doctor confirmed the diagnosis but she did not tell us much about the gravity of the handicap, but rather that the love that we could give to Alessia would be the most efficacious therapy. It was that which we realized in the depth of our hearts: we were the protagonists in this event, we the parents, with the other two children, with our families and our friends… Together we helped Alessia to grow in every way. Today we can say without hesitation that Alessia is a gift for us and for those who are near. She is a source of joy, of serenity. She has helped to make grow the love between us two above all, and then with the children a more mature love developed, a greater love. They themselves compete to kiss her when they come back from school and they tell us that we are fortunate to have had a special child such as Alessia!

John 13:34

‘A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another’ (Jn 13:34).

THE WORDS “LOVE” AND “MERCY” ARE USED BY THE CULTURE OF LIFE AS WELL AS THE CULTURE OF DEATH. “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2Cor 11:14). We as Catholics are very fortunate to have the guidance of the One True Church that Jesus Christ founded, the Catholic Church, with “the means of sanctification” in the Sacraments and the fullness of the Truth from Divine Revelation through the guidance of the magisterium of the Church (VCII: LG 8) by which the faithful may be configured to Christ.

THOMAS AQUINAS TELLS US: “RARELY AFFIRM, SELDOM DENY, ALWAYS DISTINGUISH.” Few Catholics today distinguish the difference between changing Church discipline and changing Church doctrines which come from God Who is the immutable and absolute Truth, and thus can never be changed. And still more, a great number of so-called Catholics today do not distinguish between deepening and expressing better in human language the Absolute Truth which cannot changed, with changing the Absolute Truth (Modernism, etc.)! The Church is like the waiter but God is the Cook; the waiter must not change the meal prepared by the divine Cook but must deliver the Truth, as God has revealed it, to the clients, to the faithful.

WE ARE LIVING IN ONE OF THE MOST CONFUSING TIMES IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD AND OF THE CHURCH; this confusion has been well orchestrated by the puppets of the father of lies (Jn 8:44) especially in recent times, due to the great lack of prayer and almost total disregard for sin. But notwithstanding this grave danger, very few Catholics even have a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in their homes; even worse is the fact that a great number of catechists in the parishes do not have a copy of this precious gift of our catechism first published in 1992. Do we believe that God gave us the 10 Commandments and all of Divine Revelation only to torture us or for our true good?!? Do we trust ourselves or do we trust our Creator Who loves each of us immensely?!?

SOME OF THE HOTTEST ISSUES BEING DISCUSSED TODAY are about the sanctity of life as well as the pastoral care for homosexuals and divorced and remarried Catholics. Contrast the following quotes from Church documents with the confusion being disseminated outside and inside the Catholic Church today (read these documents in their entirety!):

A new cultural climate is developing and taking hold, which gives crimes against life a new and-if possible-even more sinister character, giving rise to further grave concern.” (No. 4). “There is an even more profound aspect which needs to be emphasized: freedom negates and destroys itself, and becomes a factor leading to the destruction of others, when it no longer recognizes and respects its ESSENTIAL LINK WITH THE TRUTH. When freedom, out of a desire to emancipate itself from all forms of tradition and authority, shuts out even the most obvious evidence of an objective and universal truth, which is the foundation of personal and social life, then the person ends up by no longer taking as the sole and indisputable point of reference for his own choices the truth about good and evil, but only his subjective and changeable opinion or, indeed, his selfish interest and whims.” (No. 19; EVANGELIUM VITAE; To the Bishops, Priests and Deacons, Men and Women religious, lay Faithful, and all People of Good Will, on the Value and Inviolability of Human Life; http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/encyclicals/documents/hf_jp-ii_enc_25031995_evangelium-vitae_en.html).

POPE JOHN PAUL II (AMONG MANY OTHER OCCASIONS) SPOKE FIRMLY TO THE US BISHOPS AGAINST THIS "PICK AND CHOOSE SMORGASBORD TYPE CATHOLICISM" in LA in his September 1987 visit: "It is sometimes reported that a large number of Catholics today do not adhere to the teaching of the Church on a number of questions, notably sexual and conjugal morality, divorce and remarriage. Some are reported as not accepting the Church's clear position on abortion. It has also been noted that there is a tendency on the part of some Catholics to be selective in their adherence to the Church's moral teachings. It is sometimes claimed that dissent from the Magisterium is totally compatible with being a “good Catholic” and poses no obstacle to the reception of the sacraments. THIS IS A GRAVE ERROR that challenges the teaching office of the bishops of the United States and elsewhere. I wish to encourage you in the love of Christ to address this situation courageously in your pastoral ministry, relying on the power of God's truth to attract assent and on the grace of the Holy Spirit which is given both to those who proclaim the message and to those to whom it is addressed."

The Church's teaching on marriage and on the complementarity of the sexes reiterates a truth that is evident to right reason and recognized as such by all the major cultures of the world. Marriage is not just any relationship between human beings. It was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman, who by mutual personal gift, proper and exclusive to themselves, tend toward the communion of their persons. In this way, they mutually perfect each other, in order to cooperate with God in the procreation and upbringing of new human lives.” (No. 2; Congregation For The Doctrine Of The Faith; Considerations Regarding Proposals To Give Legal Recognition To UNIONS BETWEEN HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS; June 3, 2003; http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20030731_homosexual-unions_en.html).

Chastity and homosexuality; CCC 2357-2359.

But we wish to make it clear that DEPARTURE FROM THE CHURCH'S TEACHING, OR SILENCE ABOUT IT, in an effort to provide pastoral care is neither caring nor pastoral. ONLY WHAT IS TRUE CAN ULTIMATELY BE PASTORAL. The neglect of the Church's position prevents homosexual men and women from receiving the care they need and deserve.” (No. 15; Congregation For The Doctrine Of The Faith; Letter To the Bishops of the Catholic Church: On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons; 1 October 1986; Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect; http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_19861001_homosexual-persons_en.html).

After a leading German bishop questioned the Church’s teaching on DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE, the Vatican’s newspaper today published AN ESSAY BY POPE BENEDICT XVI, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, that called the teaching compassionate and pastoral because it is true to the teaching of Christ:
Assuredly, the word of truth can be painful and uncomfortable. But it is the way to holiness, to peace, and to inner freedom,” said Pope Benedict in 1998. “A PASTORAL APPROACH WHICH TRULY WANTS TO HELP THE PEOPLE CONCERNED MUST ALWAYS BE GROUNDED IN THE TRUTH,” because “in the end, only the truth can be pastoral,” he wrote, quoting the Gospel promise of Christ that “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Throughout his 1998 work, Pope Benedict—who was Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the time—explained that the recent documents of the Church on such matters “bring together the demands of truth with those of love in a very balanced way.” So while at times in the past “love shone forth too little in the explanation of the truth,” so today, there is a great danger that “in the name of love, truth is either to be silenced or compromised.” (http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/vatican-paper-refutes-critics-of-divorce-and-remarriage-teaching/).
This essay by Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, can be found in Italian at the Web Site of the Osservatore Romano (http://www.osservatoreromano.va/it/news/la-pastorale-del-matrimonio-deve-fondarsi-sulla-ve#.UzU6atfqUxA), but when one clicks on the English version at this site, one receives the following message: Error 404 - Page not found.

Jesus told us: “What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder” (Mt 19:6)! These words of Christ are thoroughly explained by the teachings of the Church (CCC 2331-2336).

More and more there is a great rebellion against the Absolute Truth Who is Jesus Christ (Jn 14:6)! The Truth (big “T”) here on earth, in this “dour combat” (CCC 409) is always accompanied by the cross of Christ in the present moment, but leads to true joy, peace and freedom. The truth (small “t”) of relativism, rejects suffering in the present moment, but leads to sorrow, unrest and slavery. “We do not need a Church that is moved by the world, but a Church that moves the world” – G.K. Chesterton. I do not think it was by chance that when Pope John Paul II was asked toward the end of his life to offer one verse from the entire Bible for the people of God, he responded without hesitation: “THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE” (Jn 8:32; Jer 6:16)!

In order to arrive to heaven one must seek the Truth outside of ones head and live the Truth with the help of God by way of prayer and the Sacraments. The great majority of people today do not even take the first step in seeking the uncomfortable Truth, with effort and perseverance. How can one pretend to pass eternity with the Truth, Who is Jesus Christ (Jn 14;6)?!?

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, dead bodies float downstream; TO GET TO HEAVEN WE MUST SWIM UPSTREAM AGAINST A VERY STRONG SECULAR CURRENT TODAY IN STRUGGLING IN THIS “DOUR COMBAT” (CCC 409) of life! We must struggle to seek, find and live the Truth Who is Jesus Christ, even if we must suffer and even die as Jesus did for each of us. “THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE” (Jn 8:32; Jer 6:16)!

“THE DREAM OF ST. JOHN BOSCO” of the two pillars indicates to us the great importance of staying very close to Jesus in the Eucharist (while it is still possible) with our Rosary in hand.

An Experience of Life:

At about 20 years of age, Luca Del Vecchio, now twenty-seven, a very bright and communicative boy, in his environment was a "successful" PR (Public Relations) at the discotheque, good looking, many girls around, a wealthy family that never left him wanting in anything.

Luke, however, tells how, the heart of his twenty years, was beset by a deep inner restlessness. "One night, returning from yet another disco party - he says - I found myself in bed in tears, I was aware of feeling fundamentally alone and I was terrified by the loneliness."

For Luke, the first escape route was drugs - ecstasy and cocaine in particular - that "helped me to strengthen my mask, the image of a person who is always cheerful and successful", which was a palliative to the constant threat of loneliness.

It was precisely at the moment of maximum contradiction and despair that Luke began to change his attitude and clothing, taking on the image of "dark".

One day, an aunt, having an intuition of the state of inner prostration of Luke, invited her nephew to a prayer vigil and then a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. "As I normally do, I took that proposal as a challenge and I went, involving a large group of friends," says the young man.

Once at Medjugorje, Luke began to fast and asked God for a sign of His presence which soon arrived: at the end of a long line for the confession, he came to a young priest. It was Father David Banzato who introduced him to New Horizons, the movement founded by Chiara Amirante.

Thus began the summer of 2007, the second life of Luke, now in charge of the New Evangelization for New Horizons in Lazio, Italy.
