Romans 15:7

‘Welcome one another, therefore, as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.’ (Rom 15:7)

To welcome our neighbor is certainly fundamental in order to live the commandment of God, “Love your neighbor as yourself”. But we must also remember that prudence must govern all of the other virtues, also and above all, charity. One sees clearly in the Gospels that Jesus welcomed people, byt also Jesus Who is Love incarnate, welcomed people for their true good and for the good of the community and for the good of the whole Church. At the beginning of the Gospels, at the beginning of the public life of Jesus, He preformed many miracles and healings. But slowly Jesus offered to the people and to His disciples the explanation of how one must live in order to follow Him totally in order to freely choose the way that leads to true happiness that lasts, true peace and in the end, eternal life. Many were very happy to be healed or to receive a lunch offered with the multiplication of the bread and the fish. But when Jesus explained what was needed in order to overcome our egoism and to truly love God and neighbor, that is, to follow Jesus to Jerusalem, to Calvary, to the crucifixion, few remained faithful to Jesus.

Saint Thomas Aquinas wrote: “Rarely affirm, seldom deny, always distinguish.” But more and more in our world today WE ARE DISCOURAGED TO DISTINGUISH BETWEEN GOOD AND EVIL, with the help of the supernatural virtue of prudence, especially regarding the essential things, which results in much evil and damage. In our secularized world today, which has entered very much into the Church, the values of true Christianity, which direct us toward God and to our true home in heaven, do not count for anything and are even criticized.

IT IS NECESSARY TO WELCOME THE NEIGHBOR IN A WAY THAT OFFERS TO THE NEIGHBOR HIS TRUE GOOD. How many people today offer the good to the neighbor only for this short life without any concern if that good, or welcome, helps the person to arrive to the happiness that lasts for eternity, and thus to help the person to welcome the Truth of God which truly makes us free (Jn 8:32), and not just happiness today but not tomorrow or after death? THE FUNDAMENTAL LAW OF GOD IN THE NATURAL AND SUPERNATURAL REALMS, which one sees in the life of Jesus, is that first there is sacrifice, the passion, the crucifixion, and then the true fruits, the resurrection. Today, a great number of people believe, even and especially in the Church, that one can skip or jump over Calvary and paradise is automatic: for a great number of people today, there is no more sin which Jesus tells us does great harm, in fact, the evil for which Jesus came to offer us the possibility to free ourselves from the fundamental evil. As our grandparents told us: no cross, no crown; no pain, no gain! But today almost everyone believes that you can have the crown and the gain without the cross and without the pain with Jesus. In our world today there is needed a good amount of guts to say the Truth that makes us truly free (Jn 8:32), instead of only what people want to hear which does not help them to arrive at their true good!

Today there are a great number of priests and bishops who offer misguided compassion, false mercy, instead of: “ONLY WHAT IS TRUE CAN ULTIMATELY BE PASTORAL”.
Visit: “Who Decides The Truth?” (http://spir-food.blogspot.it/2014/06/who-decides-truth.html).

TRUE LOVE MEANS TO RESPECT ALSO OUR FREE WILL: each person is free to seek the uncomfortable Truth, tied to the cross, which leads to true freedom, or to freely deceive oneself pushing aside the Truth of God, the 10 Commandments explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, and to convince oneself that tomorrow does not matter! As Saint Augustine wrote: “God who made you without your consent, will not save you without your consent.”

Sometimes, depending on the situation, prudence tells us to do as the saints did in certain situations:
“Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you deep away from any brother who is living in idleness and not in accord with the tradition that you received from us…” (2Thess 3:6).

IN THE DIARY OF SAINT FAUSTINA ONE FINDS:
“I will not speak with a certain person, because I know that Jesus does not like it and that she does not profit by it” (Diary, 277).
Regarding the Vow of Chastity: “To guard the senses, to avoid occasions, to avoid idleness, to remove temptations promptly, to remove oneself from all - and especially particular friendships, the spirit of mortification, and to reveal all these temptations to one's confessor” (Diary, 93).
“I will avoid sisters who grumble, and if they cannot be avoided, I will at least keep silent before them, thus letting them know how sorry I am to hear such things” (Diary, 226).
“There was a person who kept accosting me with flattering words, … When I left the chapel, they were there, armed and waiting for me to pass. This time, I was overcome with fear. Then Jesus stood by me and said, Do not fear. I am with you. Then I felt an extraordinary strength in my soul, which I cannot describe and, being a few steps from them, I said boldly and loudly, "Praised be Jesus Christ."And they, stepping aside, responded, "For ever and ever. Amen." As if struck by lightning, they bowed their heads, not even daring to look at me. After I had passed, I could hear some malicious comments. Ever since that time, when this person sees me, he runs away in order not to meet me and I, thanks to the Lord, have been left in peace...” (Diary, 1704).

As I wrote in the Spiritual Food 1407:
MORE THAN EVERY BEFORE THE WORLD NEEDS THESE SPIRITUAL TREASURES OF GRACE AND GUIDANCE! This is similar to how so many families in Italy put the first priority in being together at table, at supper, while avoiding as taboo disagreements due to differences in belief in the Catholic religion or Catholic morality. In the USA, this would be analogous to setting aside the Truth in order to be “politically correct”! For the great majority of Catholics today, the first priority is human respect, and what God desires for our true good is not even considered.

THE ANGUISH OF THE PROPHET: “I have become a laughingstock all the day; every one mocks me” (Jer 20:7).

In my homily for November 1, 2013 at the cemetery of the parish I gave A FEW STRONG REPROACHES when I saw that at that Mass at the cemetery of the parish, there were more than 100 people, but at the Sunday Mass, there were less than 20. I said to them: “For your mother or your grandmother here in the cemetery, more than 100 people, but for Jesus Who gave you your mother and your grandmother and all the rest, less than 20 people at the Sunday Mass; it seems to me that it has become a religion of the dead instead of the living. Without gratitude, there is no salvation!...”
(If you understand Italian, you can read more at: “Attirare la Gente, a Chi?” (http://cibo-spir.blogspot.it/2014/01/attirare-la-gente-chi.html).

Is it not also necessary to welcome those who suffer much due to the diffusion of pornography? To read about my struggle against the selling of PORNOGRAPHY and the indifference of the owners of a bar in Italy, visit:

LET US WELCOME THE BROTHER WITH THE MOTIVE FOR HIS TRUE GOOD, which sometimes will not be what the brother wants and we will be even treated very badly (like Jesus and the prophets) for our true love and welcome of the brother!

An Experience of Life:

I work in a prison, where there are difficulties. One evening, as I was leaving having completed my shift, I heard some cries. I kept walking because I was tired and wanted to get home right away, but screams continued. I thought: "No need to return, those who shift is now beginning will take care of it ...". But then I began to think; it could be something serious. In fact, some policemen were beating a man so that he might confess something that he did not know.

As soon as I entered they stopped, because they know that I do not agree with these methods. I stopped to talk with them and the atmosphere became more peaceful.

I accompanied the man in his cell, I washed him and I treated his wounds. Eventually it was discovered that he had nothing to do with the story and had not committed any crime. It was let go from prison. As he left the prison he hugged me crying. We remained very good friends.

A supplement to this “Spiritual Food 1409”, from the 100-page booklet, "Saint Veronica Giuliani - True Disciple and Apostle of Mary”, by Fr. Emmanuele of the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Mary.

Part Two: Her Doctrine and Teaching
Chapter One: “The infinite and unspeakable love of God”
(Pp. 53-60)

God is love (1Jn 4.8). And the truth most "true" - in the sense of the obvious - the most beautiful and comforting. It is the basis of the whole spiritual structure and of faith of the Christians, but also of all of mankind. God is love! God is good: "Only God is good" (Lk 18:19). He created everything for love and with love, and "does not despise anything that He has created" (Wis 11:24). It is the first encyclical of Pope Benedict XVI: “Deus caritas est”.

A true vision of God - especially after Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Word, true God and true Man, born as a baby and died poor for us, forgiving us and excusing us on the Cross – one cannot doubt the fact that the whole history of mankind, and of every person, should be read with this in mind: I have a good Father in heaven, Who is love in Himself, who is my father, Who watches over me, Who turns everything into good if I believe in Him, in His Word, if I turn to Him, if I place my trust in Him, if I invite Him to do so.

Without this vision of children who trust in God, you can not enter heaven: "Unless your turn and become like children, your will never enter the kingdom of heaven" (Mt 18:3). Now this Kingdom is Love in itself, it is the light in itself, it is peace in itself.

This is what the life of St. Veronica wants us to understand. She, trusting in God, knowing well her nothingness, in fact the nothingness of every creature before the "whole" of the Creator, was lead to "swim in God", to "merge herself in God" in Love to the point of concluding her blessed existence with these words, already quoted: "Love allowed Itself to be found! This is the secret of my suffering! Tell everyone, tell everyone!"

Yes, only for love one accepts and one understands suffering.

Why is that?

Because God is Holy; and eternal life is union with God, with "The Holy One", with Holiness Itself. We can not unite ourselves with Him, if we are still stained. That is the reason for pain, for suffering, that cleanses us in order to unite ourselves to God, to merge ourselves and bask in Him for all eternity; but even now, in the measure of our acceptance and tolerance of this purification, due to sin.

With this in mind, humble and true, one understands the judgment of God on the first man, after original sin, should not be seen as punishment, but as a remedy: it is the indispensable way for the purification of the disastrous effects of sin.

That is also the reason of purgatory, toward which - in the words of the Saint – the happy souls run, in spite of the pains, to purify themselves and be able to enjoy as soon as possible the embrace of an eternal God so beautiful, so good, so pure, so Holy. The souls in purgatory behave like this because they have seen, in the particular judgment immediately after death, the truth of this good God, merciful, offended by sins, and have seen clearly the horror of sin that stains the soul, rendering it unable to draw near to "The Holy One".

It is this that the experience of Saint Veronica reveals to us better. Happy are we if, despite not seeing, believe in this: "Blessed are those who believe without seeing" (Jn 20:29).

This is also the motive of the same hell, which is not punishment, but it is an inevitable consequence for those who refuse this love, who do not believe, who do not accept to let themselves be purified, who do not want the "order" established by God for eternal Life, by way of His Commandments and His laws which are laws of life, of love, and neglecting them they loose their life because they refuse to accept the rules of Heaven.

God, in His infinite love, does not compel man Who He created free (because in His image and likeness), but neither to destroy it, because life is a gift, and "the gifts of God are irrevocable" (Rom 11:29), but teaching him the Truth, invites man to choose life: "I have put before you life and death; choose life” (Dt 30:19); and in this truth, He presents to him also hell, not to threaten him, but to let him know the result of his choices, of his disobedience, to help him reject sin, to push him to fight, for his own good ... thus He presents this to him "out of love, out of mercy, for justice", so that no man may one day complaining of God, accusing Him of not having made it known this, to have left him in the dark, without the light of the full truth.

Here is the important role of Saint Veronica! Here is her contribution to the “triumph of love” Yes, God is Love; yes, Heaven is stupendous; but, at the same time there is also hell for those who do not believe in Heaven, for those who do not think about it and do not desire it and do not want to sacrifice certain vanities to earn it for themselves, for those who reject this Love, which is also order, obedience: "If a man loves me, he will keep my word" (John 14:23). "He who does not love Me does not keep My words; the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father's Who sent Me” (Jn 14:24).

But the devil and our human proud nature want to make us see things in reverse.

And why is this?

The devil, because he is the "father of lies" (Jn 8:44), hates us and wants us to believe that God is not Love if he creates hell, or, even worse, that God is false - as with Eve (Gen 3.5) - and that hell does not exist.

Our human nature, because it is haughty, self-sufficient and undisciplined and seeks a false freedom that does not want to submit to the laws of God, because it is wounded and weak and does not want to leave out the delights, the so-called "pleasures" joys ...

Yes, man is created for happiness, and therefore he seeks it spontaneously; but reading the writings of the Saint, and marveling about this reigning God, dominant, active, infinite ocean of love, light, peace ... we will begin to see much more as petty and ephemeral our "joys", our "pleasures", to see rather their dangers, the poison hidden as in the fruit of the Garden of Eden that was “nice and pleasant" (Gen 2:6), and to convince ourselves of the vanity of this passing world; and then we will begin to say with St. Francis: "So much is the good that waits for me, that every pain is a delight to me”.

How true are these words! How well the Saint lived them!

She, too, by excess of light and love and knowledge of God, wept as St. Francis because "Love is not loved." She wanted to run through the whole world to cry out that God is Love, God the Creator, Redeemer, Who, by His nature, can not but give, love, even to madness, to the folly of the cross that Veronica touched and described; and to shout also penance and conversion, in order to enjoy this: "Repent, the Kingdom of heaven is at hand" (Mt 3:2).

Let us help to bring forth this anguished cry by citing some passages of this "love poem" almost unique that is sprinkled in the Diary of this "chosen one among the chosen”:

- "... The more the abyss of my nothingness is deep, the more I rest in the consideration of the divine attributes. I pause on that of mercy and, as in a mirror, I see with what kind of love God has loved me and still loves me. I hope in this love ...”.

- "I have experienced love. My soul is immersed in the immensity of this sea; love transforms my soul in love itself. My soul is in God. God is in my soul. God speaks with the voice of silence, the soul responds, but its response is the echo of God's voice, which in her loves herself. It seems that my soul, with love, knows God in God Himself and shares His eternal happiness. God draws the soul to Himself with transport, impulses, raptures, fruits of love, and the new knowledge of God produces a new transformation in God. "

- "O Father of my life, Spouse of my soul, heart of my heart, return into my heart!... stars that shine before Him, tell Him that I languish with love ...".

God enjoyed the ardor of the Saint, He would return, He consoled her: "I am Love in person; I love you and I carry you in my heart. My Heart is the life of yours. You are the Bride of My Heart. "He asks her: "This heart that I see in your chest, whose is it?”. "Yours or the Lord." "Then I take it." And He places it on the Heart of Mary who is present; then He puts it on His chest. "And now which is My heart?", He asks the Saint. And Jesus replied, "Your heart is Me ... I have transformed you into Me; you have become Myself".

How many times she would arrive to union: first she speaks of "the closest union" in which the soul feels attracted as iron by the magnet, sweetly "tied", "flooded" in the ocean of God's love; later she will add the experience of feeling "uniformed", "transformed" in God; and in the last stage, when she receives in each communion the "grace of the three graces", she will reach the peak of the wise ones of union of the blessed in heaven: it is the moment of "intimate communications" which pass between God and the soul, thus ineffable. “You can not describe them”, "she affirms, but she succeeds in referring to the confessor the effects that they leave in the whole person.

"... in a moment it seemed that the Divine Love was infused in my whole soul; and it became the same thing with the Divine Love ... I do not know if I was in heaven or on earth; I had cognition of myself, it seemed to me that I was the most vile worm of the earth ... I saw that I was nothing. To this was added the sight of so much ingratitude ... a God so beneficial, so great, so merciful to have been so offended by an ungrateful creature! ... I was absorbed in God ... I saw the divine attributes of God .. . God was my memory, God was my understanding, God was my will; all God in the soul, and my whole soul in God. What I felt in these moments, one can not express ... my soul remained more detached away from all that is not God ...it seemed to me to be in a furnace ..."

"The humanity (of the person) suffers so much in these operations of Divine Love ... it wanted to complain ... but it was placid, and the spirit cried aloud, O Love! O Love! O Love, so little known by the creatures and by me, in particular! No, No; I will no longer be like this, because I want only You and with You I remain ...

- "... the soul has experienced in itself, at that point, certain operations of Divine Love ... I seemed to notice that God in His infinite immensity of love that manifested itself in this soul; and it, by way of those intimate communications between God and the soul, remained wholly united to the Supreme Good ... it was all, in all, transformed in its God of love ... and the same love operated within it, and for it all immersed in God Who communicated all to it ... these things you can never explain with words ... I only say that the soul, at that point, remains so absorbed in God, that, having returned to its feelings , everything seems new to it! Oh! What a pain it is to see itself imprisoned in this mortal body! There remains a nausea of all earthly things ...

- "... while the soul was all swimming in the vast sea of the Divinity, in that instant, there was represented before the soul my Jesus, in the way that He came into the light in order to redeem us sinners ... at that point there was something in this soul I could not understand; it seemed to me I changed into another; and it seems to me that, at that same point, God put me in Himself and filled this heart and this soul full of love. I felt certain impulses that lifted me from myself, and at the same time I felt like I wholly united to the Supreme Good".

Dear reader, the Diary is extremely full of this sublime language. To get to so great a good, it is worth some penance, some abstinence, some detachment… in a word, purification.

And if it will not be possible to imitate the Saint in many things, may God will it that these writings help us to humble ourselves deeply, realizing to what sublime levels that God calls and draws man, created in His image and likeness, and how instead we are still crawling in the mud of false pleasures that the world and the prince of this world offers. And this humility will be the first step ... and God, in His love, will help us do more ...

"No more senses, no more humanity;
God only: this I want to love.
Come all, oh foolish creatures, come,
love the highest Good:
come, sinners,
convert yourselves to God.
He is the greatest charity,
His mercy is infinite:
stop offending Him,
come back to God.
He is all love;
He will give you His same love,
to those who might love Him.
Look!
As He does with me,
He will do also with you;
come all".

John 13:34

‘A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another’ (Jn 13:34).

THE WORDS “LOVE” AND “MERCY” ARE USED BY THE CULTURE OF LIFE AS WELL AS THE CULTURE OF DEATH. “Satan disguises himself as an angel of light” (2Cor 11:14). We as Catholics are very fortunate to have the guidance of the One True Church that Jesus Christ founded, the Catholic Church, with “the means of sanctification” in the Sacraments and the fullness of the Truth from Divine Revelation through the guidance of the magisterium of the Church (VCII: LG 8) by which the faithful may be configured to Christ.

THOMAS AQUINAS TELLS US: “RARELY AFFIRM, SELDOM DENY, ALWAYS DISTINGUISH.” Few Catholics today distinguish the difference between changing Church discipline and changing Church doctrines which come from God Who is the immutable and absolute Truth, and thus can never be changed. And still more, a great number of so-called Catholics today do not distinguish between deepening and expressing better in human language the Absolute Truth which cannot changed, with changing the Absolute Truth (Modernism, etc.)! The Church is like the waiter but God is the Cook; the waiter must not change the meal prepared by the divine Cook but must deliver the Truth, as God has revealed it, to the clients, to the faithful.

WE ARE LIVING IN ONE OF THE MOST CONFUSING TIMES IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD AND OF THE CHURCH; this confusion has been well orchestrated by the puppets of the father of lies (Jn 8:44) especially in recent times, due to the great lack of prayer and almost total disregard for sin. But notwithstanding this grave danger, very few Catholics even have a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church in their homes; even worse is the fact that a great number of catechists in the parishes do not have a copy of this precious gift of our catechism first published in 1992. Do we believe that God gave us the 10 Commandments and all of Divine Revelation only to torture us or for our true good?!? Do we trust ourselves or do we trust our Creator Who loves each of us immensely?!?

SOME OF THE HOTTEST ISSUES BEING DISCUSSED TODAY are about the sanctity of life as well as the pastoral care for homosexuals and divorced and remarried Catholics. Contrast the following quotes from Church documents with the confusion being disseminated outside and inside the Catholic Church today (read these documents in their entirety!):

“A new cultural climate is developing and taking hold, which gives crimes against life a new and-if possible-even more sinister character, giving rise to further grave concern.” (No. 4). “There is an even more profound aspect which needs to be emphasized: freedom negates and destroys itself, and becomes a factor leading to the destruction of others, when it no longer recognizes and respects its ESSENTIAL LINK WITH THE TRUTH. When freedom, out of a desire to emancipate itself from all forms of tradition and authority, shuts out even the most obvious evidence of an objective and universal truth, which is the foundation of personal and social life, then the person ends up by no longer taking as the sole and indisputable point of reference for his own choices the truth about good and evil, but only his subjective and changeable opinion or, indeed, his selfish interest and whims.” (No. 19; EVANGELIUM VITAE; To the Bishops, Priests and Deacons, Men and Women religious, lay Faithful, and all People of Good Will, on the Value and Inviolability of Human Life; http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_paul_ii/encyclicals/documents/hf_jp-ii_enc_25031995_evangelium-vitae_en.html).

POPE JOHN PAUL II (AMONG MANY OTHER OCCASIONS) SPOKE FIRMLY TO THE US BISHOPS AGAINST THIS "PICK AND CHOOSE SMORGASBORD TYPE CATHOLICISM" in LA in his September 1987 visit: "It is sometimes reported that a large number of Catholics today do not adhere to the teaching of the Church on a number of questions, notably sexual and conjugal morality, divorce and remarriage. Some are reported as not accepting the Church's clear position on abortion. It has also been noted that there is a tendency on the part of some Catholics to be selective in their adherence to the Church's moral teachings. It is sometimes claimed that dissent from the Magisterium is totally compatible with being a “good Catholic” and poses no obstacle to the reception of the sacraments. THIS IS A GRAVE ERROR that challenges the teaching office of the bishops of the United States and elsewhere. I wish to encourage you in the love of Christ to address this situation courageously in your pastoral ministry, relying on the power of God's truth to attract assent and on the grace of the Holy Spirit which is given both to those who proclaim the message and to those to whom it is addressed."

“The Church's teaching on marriage and on the complementarity of the sexes reiterates a truth that is evident to right reason and recognized as such by all the major cultures of the world. Marriage is not just any relationship between human beings. It was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman, who by mutual personal gift, proper and exclusive to themselves, tend toward the communion of their persons. In this way, they mutually perfect each other, in order to cooperate with God in the procreation and upbringing of new human lives.” (No. 2; Congregation For The Doctrine Of The Faith; Considerations Regarding Proposals To Give Legal Recognition To UNIONS BETWEEN HOMOSEXUAL PERSONS; June 3, 2003; http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_20030731_homosexual-unions_en.html).

Chastity and homosexuality; CCC 2357-2359.

“But we wish to make it clear that DEPARTURE FROM THE CHURCH'S TEACHING, OR SILENCE ABOUT IT, in an effort to provide pastoral care is neither caring nor pastoral. ONLY WHAT IS TRUE CAN ULTIMATELY BE PASTORAL. The neglect of the Church's position prevents homosexual men and women from receiving the care they need and deserve.” (No. 15; Congregation For The Doctrine Of The Faith; Letter To the Bishops of the Catholic Church: On the Pastoral Care of Homosexual Persons; 1 October 1986; Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, Prefect; http://www.vatican.va/roman_curia/congregations/cfaith/documents/rc_con_cfaith_doc_19861001_homosexual-persons_en.html).

After a leading German bishop questioned the Church’s teaching on DIVORCE AND REMARRIAGE, the Vatican’s newspaper today published AN ESSAY BY POPE BENEDICT XVI, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, that called the teaching compassionate and pastoral because it is true to the teaching of Christ:
“Assuredly, the word of truth can be painful and uncomfortable. But it is the way to holiness, to peace, and to inner freedom,” said Pope Benedict in 1998. “A PASTORAL APPROACH WHICH TRULY WANTS TO HELP THE PEOPLE CONCERNED MUST ALWAYS BE GROUNDED IN THE TRUTH,” because “in the end, only the truth can be pastoral,” he wrote, quoting the Gospel promise of Christ that “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Throughout his 1998 work, Pope Benedict—who was Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith at the time—explained that the recent documents of the Church on such matters “bring together the demands of truth with those of love in a very balanced way.” So while at times in the past “love shone forth too little in the explanation of the truth,” so today, there is a great danger that “in the name of love, truth is either to be silenced or compromised.” (http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/vatican-paper-refutes-critics-of-divorce-and-remarriage-teaching/).
This essay by Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, can be found in Italian at the Web Site of the Osservatore Romano (http://www.osservatoreromano.va/it/news/la-pastorale-del-matrimonio-deve-fondarsi-sulla-ve#.UzU6atfqUxA), but when one clicks on the English version at this site, one receives the following message: Error 404 - Page not found.

“Regarding the wild proposals of Cardinal Kasper made before the last Consistory of Cardinals regarding legitimizing by way of Eucharistic communion the "remarriage" of divorced couples (we could call the Kasper Doctrine of "mariages sauvages"), Cardinal Carlo Caffarra, Archbishop of Bologna, had the firmest possible words in an interview to Matteo Matzuzzi published this Saturday in Il Foglio: …”

Our Lady of Akita, Japan (1973): “The work of the devil will infiltrate even the Church in such a way that one will see CARDINALS OPPOSING CARDINALS, bishops against other bishops. The priests who venerate Me will be scorned and opposed by their conferees… churches and altars sacked, the Church will be full of those who accept compromise …” (http://www.miraclerosarymission.org/akita.htm).

Jesus told us: “What therefore God has joined together, let not man put asunder” (Mt 19:6)! These words of Christ are thoroughly explained by the teachings of the Church (CCC 2331-2336).

More and more there is a great rebellion against the Absolute Truth Who is Jesus Christ (Jn 14:6)! The Truth (big “T”) here on earth, in this “dour combat” (CCC 409) is always accompanied by the cross of Christ in the present moment, but leads to true joy, peace and freedom. The truth (small “t”) of relativism, rejects suffering in the present moment, but leads to sorrow, unrest and slavery. “We do not need a Church that is moved by the world, but a Church that moves the world” – G.K. Chesterton. I do not think it was by chance that when Pope John Paul II was asked toward the end of his life to offer one verse from the entire Bible for the people of God, he responded without hesitation: “THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE” (Jn 8:32; Jer 6:16)!

In order to arrive to heaven one must seek the Truth outside of ones head and live the Truth with the help of God by way of prayer and the Sacraments. The great majority of people today do not even take the first step in seeking the uncomfortable Truth, with effort and perseverance. How can one pretend to pass eternity with the Truth, Who is Jesus Christ (Jn 14;6)?!?

My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, dead bodies float downstream; TO GET TO HEAVEN WE MUST SWIM UPSTREAM AGAINST A VERY STRONG SECULAR CURRENT TODAY IN STRUGGLING IN THIS “DOUR COMBAT” (CCC 409) of life! We must struggle to seek, find and live the Truth Who is Jesus Christ, even if we must suffer and even die as Jesus did for each of us. “THE TRUTH SHALL SET YOU FREE” (Jn 8:32; Jer 6:16)!

“THE DREAM OF ST. JOHN BOSCO” of the two pillars indicates to us the great importance of staying very close to Jesus in the Eucharist (while it is still possible) with our Rosary in hand.

An Experience of Life:

At about 20 years of age, Luca Del Vecchio, now twenty-seven, a very bright and communicative boy, in his environment was a "successful" PR (Public Relations) at the discotheque, good looking, many girls around, a wealthy family that never left him wanting in anything.

Luke, however, tells how, the heart of his twenty years, was beset by a deep inner restlessness. "One night, returning from yet another disco party - he says - I found myself in bed in tears, I was aware of feeling fundamentally alone and I was terrified by the loneliness."

For Luke, the first escape route was drugs - ecstasy and cocaine in particular - that "helped me to strengthen my mask, the image of a person who is always cheerful and successful", which was a palliative to the constant threat of loneliness.

It was precisely at the moment of maximum contradiction and despair that Luke began to change his attitude and clothing, taking on the image of "dark".

One day, an aunt, having an intuition of the state of inner prostration of Luke, invited her nephew to a prayer vigil and then a pilgrimage to Medjugorje. "As I normally do, I took that proposal as a challenge and I went, involving a large group of friends," says the young man.

Once at Medjugorje, Luke began to fast and asked God for a sign of His presence which soon arrived: at the end of a long line for the confession, he came to a young priest. It was Father David Banzato who introduced him to New Horizons, the movement founded by Chiara Amirante.

Thus began the summer of 2007, the second life of Luke, now in charge of the New Evangelization for New Horizons in Lazio, Italy.

John 15:10

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. (Jn 15:10)

These are nice and consoling words which stimulate many people to feel drawn to Jesus and to follow Jesus. In the beginning of His public life, Jesus preformed many miracles and many healings. But later Jesus began, with His example and then with His words, to lead people freely toward the much more precious gifts, toward true freedom from our egoism and from our slothfulness. Everyone wants miracles and healings, but to obtain the more profound and lasting freedom, there is no other way except toward Jerusalem, toward Calvary with Jesus.

When Jesus began to explain this true way toward Calvary, even the apostles were amazed (Mk 10:24) and astonished (Mk 10:26). So many were expecting an easier life with the coming of the Messiah, but instead Jesus said: “Think not that I have come to abolish the law and the prophets; I have come not to abolish them but to fulfil them…” (Mt 5:17). Not only “you shall not kill … but I say to you that every one who is angry with his brother shall be liable to judgement.” Not only “You shall not commit adultery. But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Mt 5:17-37). In the beginning of the sixth chapter of the Gospel of John, Jesus multiplied the bread and the fish and the people wanted to make Him king; but at the end of the same chapter when Jesus declared the necessity to eat His flesh and to drink His blood, many of His disciples drew back and no longer went about with Him!

Jesus never accepted compromises as many people in the Church want to do today. We live in a world that is further away from God and His 10 Commandments than ever before in the history of the world. Many religious leaders offer compromises or approve the excuses of not wanting to follow or to live the difficult parts of the Gospel, instead of offering a good holy example, and then offering good words, with much prayer and self-sacrifice, drawing strong help from the sacraments and from prayer, above all before the infinite God Who hides in the Eucharist. “Whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him if a great millstone were hung round his neck and he were thrown into the sea” (Mk 9:42). I do not believe it was by chance that during the period when so many lay people, priests and bishops rebelled against the Encyclical Letter, Humanae Vitae (1968), by Pope Paul VI, that Saint Michael the Archangel at Garabandal (Spain, 1965) said: “Many Cardinal, many Bishops and many Priests are on the road to perdition and with them they are bring many souls”!

Jesus is very demanding but Jesus is able to offer that which the other founders of other religions are not able to offer: the necessary help to be able to fully live the Gospel and also the reward of eternal life.

Many people are in love with the consolations of God but not with the God of consolations! But without the cross accepted and embraced, there will not be the crown of glory. There is no resurrection without the crucifixion; there is no Easter without Good Friday!

Jesus died naked and humiliated on the cross, as a total failure in the eyes of the world! How many of us are ready not only to suffer with Jesus but also to loose our good name, our prestige, our honor and privileges in the Church and in the civil world before everyone as did Jesus in order to live and proclaim the uncomfortable truth which makes us truly free (Jn 8:32)?

An Experience of Life:

I have lived thirty years in the name of drugs, sex and disposable deviance. I was born without being desired living in an environment marked by difficult events that unleashed quarrels and misunderstandings. What finally broke my delicate dreams of a girl was an act of violence suffered at the age of 12 years. In this way it started my unstoppable descent into hell beginning with taking drugs so as not to feel the pain. No one noticed anything.

Apparently everything was going well, but slowly I was dying loosing the will to live. I built an impregnable fortress around my heart. Grief and anger grew in me, so much need of love turned into pride and presumption. My only companion was heroine. Then cocaine in an escalation of power and money in real estate. I was ready to do anything for money and consideration . But at what price? At the price of using people and then to throw them away when I did not need them any more. I did not know any limits, but the emptiness inside was corroding me. I felt more and more terribly alone. Five times I tried to call it quits, but I did not succeed. Why? I asked myself. Why had I not yet discovered that Someone had thought about me from all eternity, and loved me to the point of giving Himself up for me.

I met a reality involved in street evangelization. I decided to join in the community where I found a real family who accompanied me step by step in a rehabilitation program based on the Gospel. From that moment my life changed: I came to know the infinite love of God through the brothers and sisters who welcomed me with my cry of pain and loneliness.

Gradually it became all about the Resurrection, in the experience of joy and forgiveness, in the ability to freely offer again my existence to those who are still imprisoned in the death of the soul testifying that Love can do miracles because God is Love! Jesus descended into my hell and transfigured it with His immense Love. I want to spend every moment of my life to be the instrument of the joy of the Resurrection!

1Thess 3:12

May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all (1Thess 3:12).

Throughout the Gospel , we often hear the exhortation to vigilance. In the liturgy of Advent, preparing for Christmas, the coming of the Lord, we hear even more this advice to vigilance. Because without vigilance, it is impossible to love according to the Gospel, following the example of Jesus, without the hidden motive of self-interest!

This invitation shows us that there is a profound truth in our lives: it is the truth of God who gives Himself and is the foundation to our existence, transforming us from the inside. It is thus necessary to be vigilant so as not to waste opportunities. It is said that the Christian is a man and a woman of hope: vigilance and prayer are two attitudes of hope, so as to be disciples of Jesus, vigilant and committed to live His New Commandment .

Attention is the first name of Advent, because consciousness is easily seduced and spirituality watered down, with the result of the prevailing mediocrity, made of habit, of complaint and neglect of significant projects. The Gospel suggests to us to watch praying. To pray is to become full of oxygen, it is to fly high , it is to avoid suffocating in banality. To the one who puts everything in God's hands, He gives the strength to stay awake, that is, to see and to live the reality with eyes wide open: Each moment , because each instant is pregnant with the future, no moment is neutral.

An Experience of Life:

The Dad’s disease affected the family atmosphere, creating a lot of tension between everyone.

I asked God for the complete healing of Dad so as to return to be the family as before, but the situation did not change, in fact it seemed to get worse. Not seeing my prayers answered, I slowly drifted away from God.

A neighbor , knowing my situation , he began to invite me to his group of friends. I was happy with them, the way of being together gave me peace. When I talked about that I no longer believed in God because He did not listen to my prayers, they listened to me in a great silence. Then they proposed the idea, if it was ok with me, to ask, together with Jesus the good that He wanted for my family. I went home with a new peace inside of myself.

Before entering, still a little doubt, but, as soon as the door was open, I found Dad who greeted me with a big smile. I knew I had to ask God for the love in order to be the first to love, those who where next to me.

Ramans 13:8

“Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law” (Rom. 13:8).

WHAT IS TRUE LOVE AND WHAT IS FALSE LOVE?

All the virtues must be governed by the virtue of prudence, otherwise all the other virtues are no longer virtues. St. Thomas Aquinas ranked prudence as the first cardinal virtue, because it is concerned with the intellect. Aristotle defined prudence as "right reason applied to practice." It is the virtue that allows us to judge correctly what is right and what is wrong in any given situation. When we mistake the evil for the good, we are not exercising prudence - in fact, we are showing our lack of it. Because it is so easy to fall into error, prudence requires us to seek the counsel of others, particularly those we know to be sound judges of morality. Disregarding the advice or warnings of others whose judgment does not coincide with ours is a sign of imprudence. Prudence “guides the other virtues by setting rule and measure” (CCC 1806, 1788; see also: Summa Theologica II-II Q47-51).

IF ONE HABITUALLY TALKS ONLY ABOUT GOD IS ALL MERCIFUL but without talking about, in the same talk and in the same context, “go and sin no more”, as Jesus did in the Gospels (Jn 5:14; 8:11), there is a great tendency to take the easy way of not seeking to amend ones life with the help of God. If one only talks about “go and sin no more”, without talking about, in the same talk and in the same context, the infinite mercy of God, one can easily fall into despondency or desperation. Here is where the hidden deception lies which causes great damage, of not presenting the essential elements of God revelation, for a particular situation or topic, together in the same talk and in the same context!

SATAN CONTINUALLY SEEKS TO UPSET THIS BALANCE; if we do not heed the teachings of the Church regarding the maintenance of the proper balance in these important areas, great harm is done to individual souls, communities and to the whole Church, and thus to the whole world.

AGAIN IT IS NECESSARY TO REFER TO THE TEACHINGS OF THE MAGISTERIUM OF THE CHURCH FOR PROPER BALANCE AND INTERPRETATION, otherwise we can so easily go with the group mentality that has slowly neglected this divine guidance, and slid into a type of false ecumenism or a false mercy of misguided compassion, while forgetting that each one of us must also be “wise as serpents” (Mt 10,16), and study the documents of the Church regularly and often. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (published 1992) was a great gift to the faithful of the Church, but very few Catholics have a copy of this precious guide in their own homes. How many pastors neglect to talk about mortal sin and its earthly and eternal consequences, especially about those mortal sins most common today? Is this true love, or is this love only for this very short life while putting aside the criteria of eternal salvation according to divine revelation?

IF PARENTS TELL THEIR CHILDREN ONLY WHAT THE CHILDREN WANT TO HEAR, will the children be ready to confront a very difficult world full of temptations and pitfalls? Such children, with gravely imprudent and negligent parents, are not trained as good soldiers or good athletes to be able to win, to win eternal salvation in the “dour combat” of life (CCC 409). Such parents, and such priests and bishops, have not prepared us for this “dour combat” and thus we were not trained to strengthen our spiritual muscles of defence against the subtle and clever onslaughts of Satan. Our Lady has very often urged the faithful to pray for the priests and bishops.

“Negligent religious leaders are often afraid to speak freely and say what needs to be said – for fear of losing favor with people. As Truth himself says, they are certainly not guarding their flock with the care expected of a shepherd but are acting like hirelings, because hiding behind a wall of silence is like taking flight at the approach of the wolf. These are the people whom the Lord is reproaching through the prophet, when he says: ‘THEY ARE ALL DUMB DOGS, THEY CANNOT BARK’ (Is 56:10) … If a religious leader is afraid to say what is right, what else can his silence mean but that he has taken flight? Whereas, if he stands firm in defense of his flock, he is building up a wall for the house of Israel against its enemies. And so again the sinful people are told: ‘Your prophets have seen false and foolish visions for you; they have not exposed your iniquity in order to provoke you to repentance.’ (Lam 2:14) …” (Pope St. Gregory the Great; Office of Readings; Sunday, Week 27 of OT).

An Experience of Life:

The other day we had returned home so tired and strained that I almost lost control and we talked in such a strong way that I was even afraid of the reaction of my husband; I really thought that our marriage might have reached an end.

I then tried, as much as I could to “repair” that situation, but he was very angered by my way of doing things which had been stronger than my own words.

The next day I had some errands to do: I would have had to go to help a very poor family. But I immediately thought that it was becoming an escape if I did not go first to ask pardon from the one who felt offended due to my behavior.

I threw out that self-defence which I had at the bottom of my heart, those useless thoughts that were suggesting to me: “Basically he too was wrong; it seemed to me that he was the one to start it all, I was so tired…”.

I knew that precisely that day my husband had a very important meeting and I had a certain fear of his reaction given the fact that the other evening he did not give in… but… I telephoned him and I ask his forgiveness. He forgave me and with that freedom that is given by way of feeling forgiven and loved, to go and try “to do something good” now had sense!

1 John 3:18

Let us not love in word or speech but in deed and in truth. (1 Jn. 3:18)

The first question that we learned in the catechism as children was: “Why did God create you? And we answered: To know, love and serve God. TODAY THIS IS TOTALLY UPSIDE DOWN: religion exists for a great number of people to serve me, not to help me to serve God, not to help me to discover the will of God from the teachings of the Church guided by the Pope (Mt 16:18), not to help me to do the will of God with the help of prayer and the Sacraments (as we say in the Our Father: “THY (not mine!) will be done”!). The great majority of people today do not want to take even the first step to discover what God wants. The philosophy of life is: “Ignorance is bliss”! Bliss today, but tomorrow, and after death?!? The recent Popes tell us that the gravest sin today is that we have lost the sense of sin. One trusts in himself and not in God-Love! “Jesus I trust in You!” (Saint Faustina).

A teacher asked a child what is love. The little girl answered simply that live means to want to be together and to pass time together with those who you love. How many parents, and in particular, the fathers of children, pass very little time with their children. If a girl does not receive love from her true father, afterwards, she easily welcomes false love from boys that want to take advantage of her for their own egoism and pleasure. If a boy does not receive true love from his father, the boy seeks to gain the attention of the father by seeking success in doing instead of being, in the simple friendship of true love between Dad and son. If there is not the presence of the father at all, there is the danger that the small boy identifies himself with the mother and to develop the disorder of homosexuality in which the relationships with other homosexual boys is not altruism but egoism, because the boy never received true love of altruism from the male model in his family. Behold how the fathers in the families can love “in deed and in truth”, to love their children as the father want to be loved, as the children want to be loved, and above all to be together in the simplicity of wanting well for each other with the help of God.

If a person did not receive true love in the family, how can he love others? We are born in original sin, in egoism; without pray and if no one offers personally true love, not only empty words, it is very difficult to come out of the pit of disguised egoism. Thus my brothers and sisters, let us pray much and offer small sacrifices for those who did not receive this authentic love from the family, which are very numerous today! But the most fundamental thing is to pass as much time as possible with the Divine Prisoner in the tabernacle, Who gives us drop by drop divine milk in order to have more and more a deep relationship with Him, without which it is impossible to have a relationship or human friendship based on true love and altruism, not disguised egoism. Then when we have that opportunity to love concretely, let us love totally to the point of being ready to give our life for Jesus Who hides in each brother who presents himself before us during the day, in particular those in our homes, not just those on the other side of the street with which we do not live in the same house!

"It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do so without the Holy Mass", Saint Padre Pio.

“The Rosary is the weapon for these times”, Saint Padre Pio.

An Experience of Life:

I live near the wall that was built in my country to divide us between the Arabs and the Jews. I see it every day opening the window of my room. Along the way, then, there are checkpoints where the soldiers stop anyone wanting to pass to check the documents, and so to go school, to visit relatives or friends becomes an adventurous undertaking ...!

I become agitated every time the soldiers stop us, but then I remember that I can offer my fear to Jesus and that the soldier is a man like me, so I have to love him.

In this way I feel that Jesus becomes everything to me, giving me the strength to re-begin each day, the weight of the difficulty becomes lighter.

Luke 6:32

‘If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.’ (Luke 6:32)

"Love your enemies." How is it done? It is just, it is all divine. Truly here we see the greatness of the "good news", a shocking news.

In the book of Samuel, chapter 26, we read about an episode of the Old Testament where we already see the style of one who forgives and loves as God loves, who sends rain on the good and the bad (Mt 5:45). In fact, the first Book of Samuel describes a generous pardon, that of David who does not kill King Saul, who instead had threatened his life. David has a higher outlook, he sees things from God, he sees in the Lord's anointed King Saul, which is why he respects the dignity and life of the king.

Yes, when a man forgives it shows his being a child of God, of a Father who loves everyone, Who is kind to the ungrateful and to the wicked. In this way the Christian realizes in himself "the image of the heavenly man" (Col 3:10) as Saint Paul notes.

"Love your enemies." This imperative is part of a series of indications with which Luke highlights the new way of loving of the disciple of Christ, a love without limits, a love that surpasses the logic of giving and receiving to assume the style of God. The generosity of God is absolute and the love of God without limits. A love that reaches even the enemy.

Love then, for the enemy, is the last frontier of a boundless mercy. To love in this way makes us similar to God, it realizes the image of the heavenly man.

But we must remember what Saint Thomas Aquinas wrote: “Rarely affirm, seldom deny, always distinguish.” Today in many countries of the world, the governments are pushing forward very strongly laws against “homophobia” even though this manipulation is against the will of the majority of the citizens of these countries. This word “homophobia” did not even exist a few years ago! Jesus taught us to love the sinner but hate the sin. But the non-believers, or “believers” who do not practice their faith, who are in the great majority today, do not distinguish between the sinner and the sin, and so, they accuse the true Christians of hating the people who have the tendency of homosexuality. Very soon there will be a true and open persecution against all those who express openly, even in the churches, that it is a grave sin, the act of homosexuality, which hurts not only the person who commits this immoral act, but also it greatly harms the families and the society. How quickly we forget what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen 19)!

True love of the enemy means to desire the true good of the enemy here on earth but also for all eternity. So many people today, also a great number of religious leaders and parents, seek to please and satisfy the desires of the flesh of the people without distinguishing if it is a sin or not, if it truly does good to the person or not. This is false and destructive love; this is misguided compassion! Few religious leaders today have the courage of the first Pope, Peter, the day of the birth of the Church, Pentecost, to say: “You have crucified Jesus” (Acts 4:10), “the author of life” (Acts 3:16), with your grave, mortal sins!

Jesus said to the apostles: “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Mt 10:16). Our Lady continually asks us to pray for the priests, the bishops and the Pope, because there is a great temptation today, with so many people brainwashed by the mass media, the schools and almost all of the religious institutions, almost all under the control of the forces of evil, to accept this false and devastating “love”. Thus it is much easier, in the name of “love” (false), to live the easier part of the words of Jesus, to be “innocent as doves”: “Ignorance is bliss!” It is difficult to go against the current today, to seek the Truth with difficulty, with study and with assiduous prayer, in order to also be “wise as serpents”!

One of the acts of charity most important especially today and which is gravely lacking today, especially by priests, bishops and parents, is to make known, to make hated and to overcome sin. But a very great number of leaders have sacrifices eternity on the altar of human respect precisely because a great number of “Christians” do not want to know, to hate and to overcome their sins that they have allowed themselves to become habituated to!

It is true that we priests studied in pastoral theology “the need to apply the “law of graduality”. But what I find is that the recent popes, in the world today, put us on our guard not so much about the lack of applying the “LAW OF GRADUALITY” but rather the danger of the “GRADUALITY OF THE LAW”, which must be refuted in as much as it reduces the value of the law to a mere ideal.” (Visit: “An Open Letter To A Fellow Priest”; http://testimony-polo.blogspot.com/2009/11/open-letter-to-fellow-priest.html).

An Experience of Life:

In my country, for more than a century, two hundred ethnic minorities have lived in peace and harmony.

In the same period when the towers collapsed in New York, also in Nigeria a civil war broke out because of disagreements between ethnic groups, between Christians and Muslims, with looting and massacres on both sides.

The government tried to restore order, but not succeeding, both Christians and Muslims formed troops of surveillance. I too was in one of these groups and fought on the side of the Christians.

One evening, during an inspection tour, we came across a Muslim group. We had surrounded our enemies. The majority of Christians suggested to kill them. But I could not do it: the Gospel says that we are to love everyone, whether Christian, Muslim or Buddhist, and love even our enemies.

I called our group leader and I proposed to him and to the others to save their lives, not because they might not have hurt us, but because those of other ethnicity are, like us, children of God. These words struck everyone and the lives of all those Muslim boys were spared.

I was happy because, even though we were enemies, God's will for His children is that we love each other as brothers.

Galatians 5:14

The whole law is summed up in a single commandment, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’ (Gal. 5:14).

Love according to Jesus and love according to our culture which surrounds us today are totally opposite. If a person does not struggle everyday with much prayer and meditation on the Word seeking to live the Word together with other true Christians, very easily, rather, automatically, one slides into the mentality of this world which takes advantage of others with hidden and disguised egoism.

This altruistic love, instead of (false!) “love” of egoism, is exemplified by the story of the good Samaritan. The path of a new humanity is that which passes by way of the transformation of the heart, from indifference to recognizing the other, to take care of the brother that needs us. Because the God that we love and in which we place all our trust is like this: God is the One Who has compassion for man, He is the One Who in Jesus made Himself neighbor to each of His creatures.

Jesus concludes the story by ordering, “Go and do likewise”. Here Jesus does not reassert a law. It is instead a proclamation of the Gospel: in Him, the Samaritan, God took care of me and loved me; because I too, healed from my illness, might love Him with all my heart and the brothers as myself. If in fact, Jesus is the Word which became close so that one might put the Word into practice, then to be the neighbor is no longer, for anyone, a distant goal, unrealistic or unattainable. If Jesus, the Samaritan, took care of me and loved me, I too can love God and neighbor, I too can show my solidarity with those who are in trouble. And one really loves the neighbor if one looks at him with the eyes of God

An Experience of Life:

One day the house keys, the salary of the husband and other valuables disappeared. Who was it? The author of the theft must have been someone close to the family ... This caused great suffering for Mirta Zanella (Argentina), so much so that she could not even pray. Then, remembering that Jesus invites us to forgive, she forgave, even the person who robbed her. After a few days it became known that a lady in distress who begged for alms in the area and with whom she had for some time a cordial relationship, stole from a neighbor's house: while she threatened the woman with a gun, her husband carried off the stolen goods. Even Mirta, some time later, received from this woman serious threats and to defend herself called the police. The woman was arrested and convicted for various crimes and sentenced to 17 years in prison.

In the months following Mirta’s husband suggested to her to visit this woman in prison. "In no way!", she responded also because she was afraid ... Shortly after a new request: this time it was a priest of the parish, who proposed to go with a group of other ladies to the women's prison, where, among others, was imprisoned the woman who robbed her. A little confused, Mirta accepted, remembering the words of the Gospel: "Go therefore and learn what this means: “I desire mercy and not sacrifice." She went with the group, to the prison and at the conclusion of the Mass she saw the woman. It was a moment: she decided to greet her with a hug. Mirta recounted: "She began crying and asked forgiveness. I told her that the Lord had already forgiven her and I too had forgiven her. She asked me to pray for her children and I promised her I would."

Luke 6:38

“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be put into your lap.” (Lk 6:38).

"Seeing the multitudes, Jesus was moved with pity" (Mt 9:36); this expresses all the love of Jesus for men groping in the dark. Love that He received from the Father: “But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Rm 5:8).

And in calling and sending his apostles, Jesus makes them share the same passionate and free love for men: "Freely you have received, freely give” (Mt 10:8).

Evangelical love has as its primary characteristic gratuity, to take the initiative, to not wait for the other to take the first step, to not let ourselves to be polluted by calculations and interest.

Gratuity is also the condition for proclaiming the Gospel effectively.

If the gratuity is the first quality of love, poverty is its robe and the riverbed where it can flow. Gratuity and poverty were married on the Cross, the greatest manifestation of Jesus and of his Gospel. The Church is called to tread the same path.

Teresa of Calcutta declared that in her extreme poverty there was never lacking a bed and a crib to accommodate the poorest people. While, when gratuity and poverty diminish, one experiences sterility. Chiara Lubich wrote: "If a group of men were true servants of Christ in ones neighbor, soon the world would be of Christ." Gratuitous love is efficacious and has a force of irresistible attraction, because it reveals the omnipotence of God.

God never lets himself be outdone in generosity!

An Experience of Life:

One evening my husband came home with the news that we would receive a sum of money as an inheritance from our relative. While celebrating the unexpected small fortune, one of us said, "We can not keep it just for ourselves, it would be nice to share it with someone in need."

The next night we learned that a family which came to Italy from Rwanda needed help. So we immediately found to whom to donate half of the sum received. Our gesture then provoked in other families the desire to do something. Soon we organized together a raffle with the proceeds of which were donated for the same purpose.
