1Thess 3:12

May the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all (1Thess 3:12).

Throughout the Gospel , we often hear the exhortation to vigilance. In the liturgy of Advent, preparing for Christmas, the coming of the Lord, we hear even more this advice to vigilance. Because without vigilance, it is impossible to love according to the Gospel, following the example of Jesus, without the hidden motive of self-interest!

This invitation shows us that there is a profound truth in our lives: it is the truth of God who gives Himself and is the foundation to our existence, transforming us from the inside. It is thus necessary to be vigilant so as not to waste opportunities. It is said that the Christian is a man and a woman of hope: vigilance and prayer are two attitudes of hope, so as to be disciples of Jesus, vigilant and committed to live His New Commandment .

Attention is the first name of Advent, because consciousness is easily seduced and spirituality watered down, with the result of the prevailing mediocrity, made of habit, of complaint and neglect of significant projects. The Gospel suggests to us to watch praying. To pray is to become full of oxygen, it is to fly high , it is to avoid suffocating in banality. To the one who puts everything in God's hands, He gives the strength to stay awake, that is, to see and to live the reality with eyes wide open: Each moment , because each instant is pregnant with the future, no moment is neutral.

An Experience of Life:

The Dad’s disease affected the family atmosphere, creating a lot of tension between everyone.

I asked God for the complete healing of Dad so as to return to be the family as before, but the situation did not change, in fact it seemed to get worse. Not seeing my prayers answered, I slowly drifted away from God.

A neighbor , knowing my situation , he began to invite me to his group of friends. I was happy with them, the way of being together gave me peace. When I talked about that I no longer believed in God because He did not listen to my prayers, they listened to me in a great silence. Then they proposed the idea, if it was ok with me, to ask, together with Jesus the good that He wanted for my family. I went home with a new peace inside of myself.

Before entering, still a little doubt, but, as soon as the door was open, I found Dad who greeted me with a big smile. I knew I had to ask God for the love in order to be the first to love, those who where next to me.

Ephesians 4:32

Be kind to one another, tender-hearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you (Eph 4:32).

The experience of God's forgiveness is what can change us from the inside, because it makes us experience the generosity of His mercy and an inexhaustible possibility of life . In the first place is not our possible conversion, but the joy of forgiveness, joy above all of God in offering us His forgiveness . Jesus in the reception of sinners gives us a glimpse this joy. The three parables that make up the fifteenth chapter of the Gospel of Luke (15:1-32) clearly convey the good news: God is a good father, his home is a safe space . The focus of the three stories focuses on the joy of God for change.

In the parable of the lost sheep attention is drawn to the activities of the pastor who searches: he leaves, goes behind, until it finds. And precisely to the intensity of the search is connected the joy of finding again. God rejoices in forgiveness. The parable tells us what God feels, not what the sinner must do. The sympathy of God and his love for the sinner precede the conversion. We convert because we are loved . We convert because we are forgiven. The shepherd goes in search of the lost sheep because it continues to be precious in his eyes. How beautiful it is to celebrate the sacrament of reconciliation: it makes you experience the joy of God which becomes your strength.

Un’Esperienza di Vita:

As I walked with my load of "lollipops" I noticed a crowd of people around a boy: he had stolen and sold a pack of cigarettes in order to eat something.

When things like this happen here with us the police are not called, but they beat you badly right on the spot.

How to get off the hook that guy who was not such a villain like they wanted to make it appear? From my proceeds of the day I took the money and I paid for him. And so calm returned and I was able to warn the boy. After a few days I passed by that area again: a person recognized me and stopped me, remembering the episode of the cigarettes; he thanked me for the example I had given.

Ramans 13:8

“Owe no one anything, except to love one another; for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law” (Rom. 13:8).

WHAT IS TRUE LOVE AND WHAT IS FALSE LOVE?

All the virtues must be governed by the virtue of prudence, otherwise all the other virtues are no longer virtues. St. Thomas Aquinas ranked prudence as the first cardinal virtue, because it is concerned with the intellect. Aristotle defined prudence as "right reason applied to practice." It is the virtue that allows us to judge correctly what is right and what is wrong in any given situation. When we mistake the evil for the good, we are not exercising prudence - in fact, we are showing our lack of it. Because it is so easy to fall into error, prudence requires us to seek the counsel of others, particularly those we know to be sound judges of morality. Disregarding the advice or warnings of others whose judgment does not coincide with ours is a sign of imprudence. Prudence “guides the other virtues by setting rule and measure” (CCC 1806, 1788; see also: Summa Theologica II-II Q47-51).

IF ONE HABITUALLY TALKS ONLY ABOUT GOD IS ALL MERCIFUL but without talking about, in the same talk and in the same context, “go and sin no more”, as Jesus did in the Gospels (Jn 5:14; 8:11), there is a great tendency to take the easy way of not seeking to amend ones life with the help of God. If one only talks about “go and sin no more”, without talking about, in the same talk and in the same context, the infinite mercy of God, one can easily fall into despondency or desperation. Here is where the hidden deception lies which causes great damage, of not presenting the essential elements of God revelation, for a particular situation or topic, together in the same talk and in the same context!

SATAN CONTINUALLY SEEKS TO UPSET THIS BALANCE; if we do not heed the teachings of the Church regarding the maintenance of the proper balance in these important areas, great harm is done to individual souls, communities and to the whole Church, and thus to the whole world.

AGAIN IT IS NECESSARY TO REFER TO THE TEACHINGS OF THE MAGISTERIUM OF THE CHURCH FOR PROPER BALANCE AND INTERPRETATION, otherwise we can so easily go with the group mentality that has slowly neglected this divine guidance, and slid into a type of false ecumenism or a false mercy of misguided compassion, while forgetting that each one of us must also be “wise as serpents” (Mt 10,16), and study the documents of the Church regularly and often. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (published 1992) was a great gift to the faithful of the Church, but very few Catholics have a copy of this precious guide in their own homes. How many pastors neglect to talk about mortal sin and its earthly and eternal consequences, especially about those mortal sins most common today? Is this true love, or is this love only for this very short life while putting aside the criteria of eternal salvation according to divine revelation?

IF PARENTS TELL THEIR CHILDREN ONLY WHAT THE CHILDREN WANT TO HEAR, will the children be ready to confront a very difficult world full of temptations and pitfalls? Such children, with gravely imprudent and negligent parents, are not trained as good soldiers or good athletes to be able to win, to win eternal salvation in the “dour combat” of life (CCC 409). Such parents, and such priests and bishops, have not prepared us for this “dour combat” and thus we were not trained to strengthen our spiritual muscles of defence against the subtle and clever onslaughts of Satan. Our Lady has very often urged the faithful to pray for the priests and bishops.

“Negligent religious leaders are often afraid to speak freely and say what needs to be said – for fear of losing favor with people. As Truth himself says, they are certainly not guarding their flock with the care expected of a shepherd but are acting like hirelings, because hiding behind a wall of silence is like taking flight at the approach of the wolf. These are the people whom the Lord is reproaching through the prophet, when he says: ‘THEY ARE ALL DUMB DOGS, THEY CANNOT BARK’ (Is 56:10) … If a religious leader is afraid to say what is right, what else can his silence mean but that he has taken flight? Whereas, if he stands firm in defense of his flock, he is building up a wall for the house of Israel against its enemies. And so again the sinful people are told: ‘Your prophets have seen false and foolish visions for you; they have not exposed your iniquity in order to provoke you to repentance.’ (Lam 2:14) …” (Pope St. Gregory the Great; Office of Readings; Sunday, Week 27 of OT).

An Experience of Life:

The other day we had returned home so tired and strained that I almost lost control and we talked in such a strong way that I was even afraid of the reaction of my husband; I really thought that our marriage might have reached an end.

I then tried, as much as I could to “repair” that situation, but he was very angered by my way of doing things which had been stronger than my own words.

The next day I had some errands to do: I would have had to go to help a very poor family. But I immediately thought that it was becoming an escape if I did not go first to ask pardon from the one who felt offended due to my behavior.

I threw out that self-defence which I had at the bottom of my heart, those useless thoughts that were suggesting to me: “Basically he too was wrong; it seemed to me that he was the one to start it all, I was so tired…”.

I knew that precisely that day my husband had a very important meeting and I had a certain fear of his reaction given the fact that the other evening he did not give in… but… I telephoned him and I ask his forgiveness. He forgave me and with that freedom that is given by way of feeling forgiven and loved, to go and try “to do something good” now had sense!

1 John 3:18

Let us not love in word or speech but in deed and in truth. (1 Jn. 3:18)

The first question that we learned in the catechism as children was: “Why did God create you? And we answered: To know, love and serve God. TODAY THIS IS TOTALLY UPSIDE DOWN: religion exists for a great number of people to serve me, not to help me to serve God, not to help me to discover the will of God from the teachings of the Church guided by the Pope (Mt 16:18), not to help me to do the will of God with the help of prayer and the Sacraments (as we say in the Our Father: “THY (not mine!) will be done”!). The great majority of people today do not want to take even the first step to discover what God wants. The philosophy of life is: “Ignorance is bliss”! Bliss today, but tomorrow, and after death?!? The recent Popes tell us that the gravest sin today is that we have lost the sense of sin. One trusts in himself and not in God-Love! “Jesus I trust in You!” (Saint Faustina).

A teacher asked a child what is love. The little girl answered simply that live means to want to be together and to pass time together with those who you love. How many parents, and in particular, the fathers of children, pass very little time with their children. If a girl does not receive love from her true father, afterwards, she easily welcomes false love from boys that want to take advantage of her for their own egoism and pleasure. If a boy does not receive true love from his father, the boy seeks to gain the attention of the father by seeking success in doing instead of being, in the simple friendship of true love between Dad and son. If there is not the presence of the father at all, there is the danger that the small boy identifies himself with the mother and to develop the disorder of homosexuality in which the relationships with other homosexual boys is not altruism but egoism, because the boy never received true love of altruism from the male model in his family. Behold how the fathers in the families can love “in deed and in truth”, to love their children as the father want to be loved, as the children want to be loved, and above all to be together in the simplicity of wanting well for each other with the help of God.

If a person did not receive true love in the family, how can he love others? We are born in original sin, in egoism; without pray and if no one offers personally true love, not only empty words, it is very difficult to come out of the pit of disguised egoism. Thus my brothers and sisters, let us pray much and offer small sacrifices for those who did not receive this authentic love from the family, which are very numerous today! But the most fundamental thing is to pass as much time as possible with the Divine Prisoner in the tabernacle, Who gives us drop by drop divine milk in order to have more and more a deep relationship with Him, without which it is impossible to have a relationship or human friendship based on true love and altruism, not disguised egoism. Then when we have that opportunity to love concretely, let us love totally to the point of being ready to give our life for Jesus Who hides in each brother who presents himself before us during the day, in particular those in our homes, not just those on the other side of the street with which we do not live in the same house!

"It would be easier for the world to survive without the sun than to do so without the Holy Mass", Saint Padre Pio.

“The Rosary is the weapon for these times”, Saint Padre Pio.

An Experience of Life:

I live near the wall that was built in my country to divide us between the Arabs and the Jews. I see it every day opening the window of my room. Along the way, then, there are checkpoints where the soldiers stop anyone wanting to pass to check the documents, and so to go school, to visit relatives or friends becomes an adventurous undertaking ...!

I become agitated every time the soldiers stop us, but then I remember that I can offer my fear to Jesus and that the soldier is a man like me, so I have to love him.

In this way I feel that Jesus becomes everything to me, giving me the strength to re-begin each day, the weight of the difficulty becomes lighter.

Luke 6:32

‘If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? For even sinners love those who love them.’ (Luke 6:32)

"Love your enemies." How is it done? It is just, it is all divine. Truly here we see the greatness of the "good news", a shocking news.

In the book of Samuel, chapter 26, we read about an episode of the Old Testament where we already see the style of one who forgives and loves as God loves, who sends rain on the good and the bad (Mt 5:45). In fact, the first Book of Samuel describes a generous pardon, that of David who does not kill King Saul, who instead had threatened his life. David has a higher outlook, he sees things from God, he sees in the Lord's anointed King Saul, which is why he respects the dignity and life of the king.

Yes, when a man forgives it shows his being a child of God, of a Father who loves everyone, Who is kind to the ungrateful and to the wicked. In this way the Christian realizes in himself "the image of the heavenly man" (Col 3:10) as Saint Paul notes.

"Love your enemies." This imperative is part of a series of indications with which Luke highlights the new way of loving of the disciple of Christ, a love without limits, a love that surpasses the logic of giving and receiving to assume the style of God. The generosity of God is absolute and the love of God without limits. A love that reaches even the enemy.

Love then, for the enemy, is the last frontier of a boundless mercy. To love in this way makes us similar to God, it realizes the image of the heavenly man.

But we must remember what Saint Thomas Aquinas wrote: “Rarely affirm, seldom deny, always distinguish.” Today in many countries of the world, the governments are pushing forward very strongly laws against “homophobia” even though this manipulation is against the will of the majority of the citizens of these countries. This word “homophobia” did not even exist a few years ago! Jesus taught us to love the sinner but hate the sin. But the non-believers, or “believers” who do not practice their faith, who are in the great majority today, do not distinguish between the sinner and the sin, and so, they accuse the true Christians of hating the people who have the tendency of homosexuality. Very soon there will be a true and open persecution against all those who express openly, even in the churches, that it is a grave sin, the act of homosexuality, which hurts not only the person who commits this immoral act, but also it greatly harms the families and the society. How quickly we forget what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen 19)!

True love of the enemy means to desire the true good of the enemy here on earth but also for all eternity. So many people today, also a great number of religious leaders and parents, seek to please and satisfy the desires of the flesh of the people without distinguishing if it is a sin or not, if it truly does good to the person or not. This is false and destructive love; this is misguided compassion! Few religious leaders today have the courage of the first Pope, Peter, the day of the birth of the Church, Pentecost, to say: “You have crucified Jesus” (Acts 4:10), “the author of life” (Acts 3:16), with your grave, mortal sins!

Jesus said to the apostles: “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves; so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves” (Mt 10:16). Our Lady continually asks us to pray for the priests, the bishops and the Pope, because there is a great temptation today, with so many people brainwashed by the mass media, the schools and almost all of the religious institutions, almost all under the control of the forces of evil, to accept this false and devastating “love”. Thus it is much easier, in the name of “love” (false), to live the easier part of the words of Jesus, to be “innocent as doves”: “Ignorance is bliss!” It is difficult to go against the current today, to seek the Truth with difficulty, with study and with assiduous prayer, in order to also be “wise as serpents”!

One of the acts of charity most important especially today and which is gravely lacking today, especially by priests, bishops and parents, is to make known, to make hated and to overcome sin. But a very great number of leaders have sacrifices eternity on the altar of human respect precisely because a great number of “Christians” do not want to know, to hate and to overcome their sins that they have allowed themselves to become habituated to!

It is true that we priests studied in pastoral theology “the need to apply the “law of graduality”. But what I find is that the recent popes, in the world today, put us on our guard not so much about the lack of applying the “LAW OF GRADUALITY” but rather the danger of the “GRADUALITY OF THE LAW”, which must be refuted in as much as it reduces the value of the law to a mere ideal.” (Visit: “An Open Letter To A Fellow Priest”; http://testimony-polo.blogspot.com/2009/11/open-letter-to-fellow-priest.html).

An Experience of Life:

In my country, for more than a century, two hundred ethnic minorities have lived in peace and harmony.

In the same period when the towers collapsed in New York, also in Nigeria a civil war broke out because of disagreements between ethnic groups, between Christians and Muslims, with looting and massacres on both sides.

The government tried to restore order, but not succeeding, both Christians and Muslims formed troops of surveillance. I too was in one of these groups and fought on the side of the Christians.

One evening, during an inspection tour, we came across a Muslim group. We had surrounded our enemies. The majority of Christians suggested to kill them. But I could not do it: the Gospel says that we are to love everyone, whether Christian, Muslim or Buddhist, and love even our enemies.

I called our group leader and I proposed to him and to the others to save their lives, not because they might not have hurt us, but because those of other ethnicity are, like us, children of God. These words struck everyone and the lives of all those Muslim boys were spared.

I was happy because, even though we were enemies, God's will for His children is that we love each other as brothers.

Galatians 5:14

The whole law is summed up in a single commandment, ‘You shall love your neighbour as yourself’ (Gal. 5:14).

Love according to Jesus and love according to our culture which surrounds us today are totally opposite. If a person does not struggle everyday with much prayer and meditation on the Word seeking to live the Word together with other true Christians, very easily, rather, automatically, one slides into the mentality of this world which takes advantage of others with hidden and disguised egoism.

This altruistic love, instead of (false!) “love” of egoism, is exemplified by the story of the good Samaritan. The path of a new humanity is that which passes by way of the transformation of the heart, from indifference to recognizing the other, to take care of the brother that needs us. Because the God that we love and in which we place all our trust is like this: God is the One Who has compassion for man, He is the One Who in Jesus made Himself neighbor to each of His creatures.

Jesus concludes the story by ordering, “Go and do likewise”. Here Jesus does not reassert a law. It is instead a proclamation of the Gospel: in Him, the Samaritan, God took care of me and loved me; because I too, healed from my illness, might love Him with all my heart and the brothers as myself. If in fact, Jesus is the Word which became close so that one might put the Word into practice, then to be the neighbor is no longer, for anyone, a distant goal, unrealistic or unattainable. If Jesus, the Samaritan, took care of me and loved me, I too can love God and neighbor, I too can show my solidarity with those who are in trouble. And one really loves the neighbor if one looks at him with the eyes of God

An Experience of Life:

One day the house keys, the salary of the husband and other valuables disappeared. Who was it? The author of the theft must have been someone close to the family ... This caused great suffering for Mirta Zanella (Argentina), so much so that she could not even pray. Then, remembering that Jesus invites us to forgive, she forgave, even the person who robbed her. After a few days it became known that a lady in distress who begged for alms in the area and with whom she had for some time a cordial relationship, stole from a neighbor's house: while she threatened the woman with a gun, her husband carried off the stolen goods. Even Mirta, some time later, received from this woman serious threats and to defend herself called the police. The woman was arrested and convicted for various crimes and sentenced to 17 years in prison.

In the months following Mirta’s husband suggested to her to visit this woman in prison. "In no way!", she responded also because she was afraid ... Shortly after a new request: this time it was a priest of the parish, who proposed to go with a group of other ladies to the women's prison, where, among others, was imprisoned the woman who robbed her. A little confused, Mirta accepted, remembering the words of the Gospel: "Go therefore and learn what this means: “I desire mercy and not sacrifice." She went with the group, to the prison and at the conclusion of the Mass she saw the woman. It was a moment: she decided to greet her with a hug. Mirta recounted: "She began crying and asked forgiveness. I told her that the Lord had already forgiven her and I too had forgiven her. She asked me to pray for her children and I promised her I would."

1 Peter 2:20

But if you endure when you do right and suffer for it, you have God’s approval (1 Pt 2:20).

MYSTERIOUS REAL SOLIDARITY

Those who belong to Christ must live to the full the whole life of Christ. One must grow to the maturity of Christ, (...) pass through Gethsemane and Golgotha. And all the suffering that may come from the outside are nothing compared to the dark night of the soul, when the divine light no longer shines and the Lord's voice is no longer heard. God is always there, but He is hidden.

The sufferings and death of Christ continue in His Mystical Body, and in each one of the members of this Body. Suffering and death are the destiny of every man. But if he is a member of the Mystical Body of Christ, his suffering and his death assume by way of the divinity of the Head an expiatory, co-redemptive. (...)

So, the one who is tied to Christ will persevere unshaken even in the dark night of the subjective distance from God and God's absence; perhaps the divine economy of salvation uses its torments to free someone who is objectively chained by sin. Therefore “voluntas tua”! Even, and precisely within the darkest night.

An Experience of Life:

I had accumulated stress. For a while, I succeeded in not making this a burden on the family, but at some point I realized that there was tension between Elke and me and this reflected on the children. Any little problem was enough to make them quarrel and they did not accept any rule of order. In addition, I no longer had the time and calm to do the little things at home, such as preparing the dishwasher, as is my wont, or clear the table, and so on. So I could not continue.

I began to talk with an open heart with my wife, I told her everything that was weighing on me: the mistakes made, my worries, not being able, in short, everything. Together we helped each other. We remembered a phrase from the Gospel: “Cast all your anxieties on Him” (1 Peter 5:7). This particular situation remained, but it was dealt with differently; I gave the preoccupations to God and to me there remained only the occupations. With Elke we saw each other with new eyes, not looking any longer at the mistakes we made. Now in the house one can breathe; the children are always lively, but in peace.

Luke 6:38

“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over, will be put into your lap.” (Lk 6:38).

"Seeing the multitudes, Jesus was moved with pity" (Mt 9:36); this expresses all the love of Jesus for men groping in the dark. Love that He received from the Father: “But God shows his love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us” (Rm 5:8).

And in calling and sending his apostles, Jesus makes them share the same passionate and free love for men: "Freely you have received, freely give” (Mt 10:8).

Evangelical love has as its primary characteristic gratuity, to take the initiative, to not wait for the other to take the first step, to not let ourselves to be polluted by calculations and interest.

Gratuity is also the condition for proclaiming the Gospel effectively.

If the gratuity is the first quality of love, poverty is its robe and the riverbed where it can flow. Gratuity and poverty were married on the Cross, the greatest manifestation of Jesus and of his Gospel. The Church is called to tread the same path.

Teresa of Calcutta declared that in her extreme poverty there was never lacking a bed and a crib to accommodate the poorest people. While, when gratuity and poverty diminish, one experiences sterility. Chiara Lubich wrote: "If a group of men were true servants of Christ in ones neighbor, soon the world would be of Christ." Gratuitous love is efficacious and has a force of irresistible attraction, because it reveals the omnipotence of God.

God never lets himself be outdone in generosity!

An Experience of Life:

One evening my husband came home with the news that we would receive a sum of money as an inheritance from our relative. While celebrating the unexpected small fortune, one of us said, "We can not keep it just for ourselves, it would be nice to share it with someone in need."

The next night we learned that a family which came to Italy from Rwanda needed help. So we immediately found to whom to donate half of the sum received. Our gesture then provoked in other families the desire to do something. Soon we organized together a raffle with the proceeds of which were donated for the same purpose.

James 5:9

“Do not grumble, brethren, against one another” (Jas 5:9).

The Lord is near: it is the message that comes to us in this passage from the letter of Saint James. Certainly, looking at what is around us, it would not seem real: how much violence, injustice and oppression!

The Apostle James invites the Christians of his time, who lived in difficulties, to patience and to rejuvenate the mind and he proposes as an example and stimulus the figures of the farmer and the prophet. The first waits patiently for the autumn and the spring rains. His job depends on them and cannot do anything without them. The Palestinian farmer was so open to this action of God that the blessings or rain became proverbial... just as his patience became proverbial. The exhortation to patience has as its center the need to avoid grumbling and protests in order to live the precept of mutual love. The other example that St. James presents to his readers is that of the prophets who bear pain, persecution and, sometimes, death. They accept patiently everything because they understood that "the Lord's coming is near."

How can we accept and make our own this message? It invites us to understand, in the folds of history, the positive, the good, the seeds of the Word, that is, the signs of Christ's presence. There is the good: let us appreciate it and make it grow. This reassures us, it gives us courage, it put in this way a ray of light, which is the light of God in our hearts. It communicates to us new energy and the heart becomes capable of being like that of God, always ready to love.

Christians are not those who complain, but they know how to bring the light that they have in the heart in the environments where they live: in the family, at work, in times of leisure and rest, with friends. They are a positive presence, because the Lord is near. And with Him one can not be down. Like the disciples of Emmaus: "Did not our hearts burn within us while He talked to us on the road, while He opened to us the scriptures?” (Lk 24:32).

But sometimes, out of true love, we must speak as Jesus spoke to the disciples of Emmaus: “O foolish men, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into His glory? (Lk 24:25-26).

An Experience of Life:

At a bar here in Italy, which also sells magazines, where I live and go for a cup of coffee after my daily Mass, one of the wives (co-owner of the bar; two family owners), was talking about the calendar, which they sell, with a completely nude woman on the front. I said to her that she will have to render an account to God after her death for selling pornography in her store. She was not happy with me and became frustrated. I then said to her that we men, as God has created us, when we habitually look at pornography without repenting and seeking to amend our lives, begin to look upon women as objects of pleasure instead of persons to appreciate and to esteem. She said with indignation: “But who says this?” I answered, Pope Paul VI in Humanae Vitae! I then said to her that when husbands, who are habituated to looking at pornography, make love with their wives, they are making love with the image of the pornography in their head, not with their wives, which is a true betrayal! Italians in general are very adept to making banal everything including the most sacred things of our faith.

When a girl uses her half naked body as bait, she attracts fish interested in her body; when that fish gets tired of her body, he goes to another body and she goes into depression and wonders why?!? If she covers her body modestly and uses the mystery of her personality which God gave her, she attracts men interested in her unique character which is unrepeatable and thus this attraction will last a lifetime, with the help of prayer, and on into eternity! This is not easy when the vast majority of the male fish have truly become intoxicated, even to the point of modifying their brains, with pornography and thus are brainwashed and highly stimulated to seek what they see in the pornographic magazines, the perfect bodies which do not exist. Girls end up trying to compete with the perfectly disguised, camouflaged and fixed-up models and end up doing extreme diets and all kinds of other body-shaping exercises.

In the name of “women’s liberation” women have been truly debased and have forfeited their God-given dignity to be valued according to their fat tissue and flesh in the right places of their bodies (like cattle auctioning) because they have swallowed the continually repeated enticing slogans of the “father of lies” (Jn 8:44) who tells us that our worth is only in the visible and that God takes away our freedom and happiness. Only if women and men seek, find and embrace the Author and Giver of their intrinsic beauty and dignity can they escape from and come out of this hideous tunnel of deception to find true and lasting freedom, joy, peace and happiness. The first commandment of Satan is: “You must not suffer; avoid suffering at all costs!” While the Author of life tells us: “If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (Mt 16:24; Mk 8:34; 10:21; Lk 9:23). There is no Easter without Good Friday; there is no resurrection without the passion and the crucifixion in our personal lives in union with the One Who loves us more than all the love of others put together, Jesus Christ! Did the owners of this bar care about discovering the connection between pornography and the damage or the destruction to people, families and society? “Ignorance is bliss”, at least for ones own egotism, without any concern for the others unless we get caught and then only to save face! Hypocrites! Is “ignorance bliss” for eternity, or is Jesus right when He said: “The truth shall set you free” (Jn 8:32)? “Today, I was led by an Angel to the chasms of hell… But I noticed one thing: that most of the souls there are those who disbelieved that there is a hell.” (Diary of Saint Faustina, 741).

Our culture of death has not helped our boys to become true men who respect women but rather pathetic cowards masquerading as “Rambo” seeking only to use women for their egotistical pleasure, instead of sacrificing themselves for the true good of others as true men do! It is very difficult today both for the girl and for the boy to go against the very strongly promoted tide, a true deluge, of egotism of using each other for mutual masturbation which leads, in the end, to eliminating the weak who do not satisfy the self-centered desires and lustful pleasures of the strong. In the richer countries of the world we are truly living in the “culture of death” (Evangelium Vitae, by Pope John Paul II)!

A week later after this incident at the bar, the husband of this woman put a poster (about 36x24 inches) of a fully naked woman outside at the entrance of his bar in public view. When I protested he justified himself with an attitude of arrogance and laughing at me saying that God made women beautiful so why not look at them? He then pulled out another copy of what he posted outside his bar to show it to me close up inside the bar. I said that according to his logic men then should look at beautiful naked women and then leave their wives and break up the family and leave the children abandoned! He continued to joke and laugh at me. I am even more sad that the Pastor of the parish, who was present, just smiled and laughed at the inappropriate jokes so as to be in agreement with everyone as his way of treating others in a nice way and not being in disagreement with anyone! This Pastor is very generous and kind but it seems to me that his definition of “love” is to try to offer what the people want so that the people are all happy; when there is a conflict of interests between what he thinks the people want and what one reads in the Bible as explained by the Catechism of the Catholic Church, he ignores or pushes aside what the people do not want to hear.

It seems to me that in this situation one could apply the words of Christ: “Get behind me, Satan! You are a hindrance to me; for you are not on the side of God, but of men.” (Mt 16:23).

Love, for the enemy, is the last frontier of a boundless mercy.

“When the disciples heard this they were greatly astonished saying, “Who then can be saved?” But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”. (Mt 19:25-26; Mk 10:27; Lk 18:27). Jesus did not offer compromises!

When the Jews disputed saying: “How can this man give us his flesh to eat” (Jn 6:52), and then “many of his disciples drew back and no longer went about with him. Jesus said to the twelve, Will you also go away?” (Jn 6:66-67). Jesus did not compromise the Truth to accommodate the people!

It is interesting what Our Lady said about these our times:
Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. WITH THE ROSARY, PRAY FOR THE POPE, THE BISHOPS, AND THE PRIESTS. The work of the devil will infiltrate even the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against other bishops. The priests who venerate Me will be scorned and opposed by their conferees… churches and altars sacked, THE CHURCH WILL BE FULL OF THOSE WHO ACCEPT COMPROMISE …” (http://www.miraclerosarymission.org/akita.htm).

If the majority of the local priests indicate, in one way or another, that one can get to heaven without passing through Calvary with Jesus, who will believe the one priest in the area that explains that this is contrary to the constant teaching of the Catholic Church and all of the saints? If parents are not united, a child will take the words of the parent who offers the easiest path. This is false love, this is false compassion, which does not lead to true freedom (Jn 8:32) but true slavery and destruction!

It is true that a pastor should seek to help and comfort those who are suffering; Christ had great compassion for the suffering. But when one discerns that it is the will of God to accept and embrace the gift of a small piece of the cross of Christ, the pastor should encourage the people to hold fast to the true teachings of Christ and not push aside the more difficult teachings of Sacred Scripture explained by the Church. The Curate of Ars said a priest must be ready to suffer with and for every penitent who come to him in confession, even though the holy Curate encouraged people to embrace with love and trust the sufferings that God sends to each of us in His loving divine providence. We must imitate Simon of Cyrene to carry with Jesus His cross, even though at times we feel compelled to do so (Mk 15:21).

“Now I rejoice in my sufferings for you sake, and in my flesh I complete what is lacking in Christ’s afflictions for the sake of his body, that is, the church” (Col 1:24).

This same seemingly meek and humble priest, who just about never raises his voice to anyone, reacted strongly to me when I praise a woman, Mary Ann Kuharski, with 12 children who I saw on EWTN and who is doing great work as the Director of Prolife across America; his reaction was as if this woman had done a grave wrong or was out of her mind! This same pastor, after I spoke of the importance of maintaining great reverence before the infinite God in the Eucharist during my homily at daily Mass in a church where he is the Pastor, citing a few things from Church documents such as Memoriale Domini (1969), again reacted strongly even to the point of just about yelling at me in the bar after Mass. When I asked him if it was wrong to cite the documents of the Church or writings of the popes, he responded forcefully, “Not in this case” (“In questo caso, No!”)! People do not like to suffer with more children than one or two which gives satisfaction to the parents, but no more. People do not like to maintain humility before the Blessed Sacrament and to persevere in not chattering in church with their friends. Many so-called experts of the liturgy after the Second Vatican Council ignored or discarded most of the wisdom of 2000 years of tradition and shifted the focus of the Liturgy toward the people and the community instead of maintaining the primary focus on the adoration of God and communion with God in the Sacred Liturgy. This was rather appealing to a great number of priests and bishops who are now very reluctant in accepting the reform of the reform of the Sacred Liturgy begun by Pope Benedict XVI.

I have discovered that this priest talks to others about my behavior in this situation as if I am rather strange, like I am from another world. It seems that there are many Catholics today, who I have met, that are very similar to our Protestant brothers because they are comfortable with the Bible but not with the Catechism of the Catholic Church. It occurred to me that it is much easier to interpret the Sacred Scriptures according to ones own desires and subjectivism and whims than the official Catechism of the Catholic Church! In other words it is much easier to manipulate according to ones own whims and desires 10 briefly stated commandments from chapter 5 of the book of Deuteronomy than 505 paragraphs (CCC 2052-2557) from the official Catechism of the Catholic Church (1994)!

This less problematic way of accommodating what the people desire is what so many priests and bishops do to be “politically correct”, to not make waves even though Christ always proclaimed the full truth, the full Gospel, which led to His crucifixion! After I saw the poster still outside the bar the next morning I said in my homily that morning that I decided to make a Christmas Novena in which I would not take coffee (“cappuccino”) after Mass each morning, with the intention of making reparation for all of the sins caused by pornography. But after Christmas I continued to not go to this bar. When I saw the same wife on the street a few days later she made fun of me asking me if I was afraid of naked women! I said that my Jesus suffers due to pornography. She retorted back: “But what suffering, what suffering?” (“Ma che soffrire, ma che soffrire?!?”).

Is it not in our egotistical times, in the “culture of death” (Evangelium Vitae), that we hear shouted and promoted in the mass media the prophecy of Jesus (the eighth “Station of the Cross”): “For behold, the days are coming when they will say, ‘Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breast that never gave suck!’ Then they will begin to say to the mountains, ‘Fall on us’; and to the hills, ‘Cover us.’ (“The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead.” - Akita). For if they do this when the wood is green (when all is easy in wellbeing and richness; no sacrifice in giving life, procreation (Gen 1:28), as God did in creating us!), what will happen when it is dry?” (Lk 23:29-31). In the past this prophecy was often applied to the women of Jerusalem and to those like them in future times, those who have compassion for Jesus in His great sufferings for us. The truthful economists, who do not promote the culture of death, tell us that one of the most fundamental factors causing the current economic crisis is that for the first time in the history of the world and of the Church in the richer countries there are more grandparents than children who must sustain the pensions of those in retirement.

A week after Christmas the identical twin sacristans, who like chattering with their buddies at the bar about sport events (Juventus fans) and who were happy with my friendly and outgoing presence at this bar in the past, grumbled to me that I should return to this bar and make peace. I said to them that this would be like making peace 2000 years ago with the soldiers who were joking and laughing at Jesus on the cross and offered Jesus vinegar. Those who joke and laugh about this “grave offense” of selling and distributing pornographic materials are doing the same as the soldiers 2000 years ago who crucified Jesus! I added that I will return to this bar if they stop selling pornography. They murmured to me: “This would be difficult!” (“Questa sarà difficile!”). My personal choice to seek to discover and do what Jesus wants in this situation was a suffering for me to not have a cup of cappuccino with friends each morning after my daily Mass!

When I saw this same wife (co-owner of the bar) at a social lunch a few weeks later, she said to me that if I talk about this anymore to others she was going to come into the church while I was celebrating Mass and do something. I told her to bring her gun and shoot me!

A few months later when I saw one of the other wives (co-owner of the bar; two families), who was more sympathetic toward me (her mother went to Holy Mass everyday), at the weekly street market, she asked me why I do not come to the bar anymore. I said to her that if she stops selling pornography in her bar I will come back immediately. Her facial expression revealed that she was rather bewildered, that she was not able to understand my motivation for my behavior! As so many so-called Christians today, totally immersed in the grave and devastating deception of relativism which surrounds us today like the air that we breath in which there is no more objective and absolute truth, it did not even enter into her mind to seek or to ask the question: what are the effects on others caused by selling pornography for a few coins, or what does Jesus want or desire in this situation, or in this situation what would give delight to Jesus Who gave us everything we have and even died on the cross due to our indifference and ingratitude?

When people ask me why I do not frequent that bar anymore, I give them the following printed on a small piece of paper:
Side 1:
Catechism of the Catholic Church:
2354 “PORNOGRAPHY consists in removing real or simulated sexual acts from the intimacy of the partners, in order to display them deliberately to third parties. It offends against chastity because it perverts the conjugal act, the intimate giving of spouses to each other. It does grave injury to the dignity of its participants (actors, vendors, the public), since each one becomes an object of base pleasure and illicit profit for others. It immerses all who are involved in the illusion of a fantasy world. It is a grave offense. Civil authorities should prevent the production and distribution of pornographic materials.”
Side 2:
Relativism, according to Pope Benedict XVI, is "the most profound difficulty of our time." (http://popebenedictxviblog.blogspot.it/2005_05_01_archive.html).
In his homily at the Mass preceding the conclave that quickly elected him Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Ratzinger said: “Today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be "tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine", seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. WE ARE BUILDING A DICTATORSHIP OF RELATIVISM that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires.” (http://www.vatican.va/gpII/documents/homily-pro-eligendo-pontifice_20050418_en.html).

When I offered this written copy, while walking on the street near the post office, of the explanation of why I do not frequent that bar anymore to the bar owner who had posted the naked woman outside his bar, he just smiled and joke at me as if I was some type of idiot. But more than four months after the incident, when I walked past his bar while he was sitting outside with someone else, I said good morning to them and wished then a nice day and the owner of the bar did not even lift his head to respond to me. When a major crisis begins in Italy and the mass media puts the blame on the true Christians, what will be the reaction of this man toward me then? “I have said all this to you to keep you from falling away. They will put you out of the synagogues; indeed, the hour is coming when whoever kills you will think he is offering service to God. And they will do this because they have not known the Father, no me. But I have said these things to you, that when their hour comes you may remember that I told you of them” (Jn 16:1-4).

From a website in Italian one finds the following in regards to MASONRY AND SEXUAL CORRUPTION:
2) “Our job is to PROMOTE A WAVE OF PORNOGRAPHY and to present it with sympathy as the supreme goal of artistic freedom” (Word of order of the Italian Communist Party).
3) “If we want to destroy a nation, WE MUST FIRST DESTROY IT’S MORALS; then it will fall in our laps as a ripe fruit. Awaken the interest of the youth for sex and it will be yours” (Lenin).
To conquer America, Khrushchev had sent into America a great quantity of pornography. In an interview with the Sec. of Agriculture, Esra Taft Benson during the Eisenhower administration, KHRUSHCHEV said, “You Americans are so gullible. No, you won’t accept communism outright; but we’ll keep feeding you small doses of Socialism until you will finally wake up and find that you already have communism. We won’t have to fight you; we will so weaken your economy UNTIL YOU FALL LIKE OVERRIPE FRUIT INTO OUR HANDS.”

"Religion does not fear the dagger’s point; but it can vanish under corruption. Let us not grow tired of corruption: we may use a pretext, such as sport, hygiene, health resorts. It is necessary to corrupt, that our boys and girls practice nudism in dress. To avoid too much reaction, one would have to progress in a methodical manner: first, undress up to the elbow; then up to the knees; then arms and legs completely uncovered; later, the upper part of the chest, the shoulders, etc. etc." (International Review on Freemasonry, 1928)

John 8:7

“Let the one among you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her” (Jn 8:7)

In a climate of confusion, uncertainty, distrust, there are many erroneous explanations and answers, but a lived faith gives us confidence: Some people do not lose sight of us.

Jesus opens a new path: salvation! Paul, in his letter to the Philippians (3:8-14), speaks of his own "newness" after his encounter with Jesus Christ. His is a true "miracle of Easter": it draws him out of himself, from his pride, he acquires new eyes and a new heart, he meets the Risen One and - consequently - lives a new life.

The newness is also present in the Gospel. The adulterous woman, in the encounter with Jesus: "Woman - he says - where are your accusers? Has no one condemned you?".

"No one, sir," replies the woman. "Neither do I condemn you."

Amazed at so much love, she feels loved and forgiven: she is now a new creature, able on her part to love and forgive.

But this gift of forgiveness is received if one lives also the words that Jesus said to the adulterous woman at the end: “Go, and do not sin again”, as we say in the Act of Contrition: “I firmly resolve with the help of thy grace to sin no more and to avoid the near occasion of sin”! Thus for the very numerous people WHO HAVE LET THEMSELVES slid into relativism, “the most profound difficulty of our time" (Pope Benedict XVI), the sins remain not forgiven!

In his homily at the Mass preceding the conclave that quickly elected him Pope Benedict XVI, then Cardinal Ratzinger said: “How many winds of doctrine have we known in recent decades, how many ideological currents, how many ways of thinking. The small boat of the thought of many Christians has often been tossed about by these waves - flung from one extreme to another: from Marxism to liberalism, even to libertinism; from collectivism to radical individualism; from atheism to a vague religious mysticism; from agnosticism to syncretism and so forth. Every day new sects spring up, and what St Paul says about human deception and the trickery that strives to entice people into error (cf. Eph 4: 14) comes true. Today, having a clear faith based on the Creed of the Church is often labeled as fundamentalism. Whereas relativism, that is, letting oneself be "tossed here and there, carried about by every wind of doctrine", seems the only attitude that can cope with modern times. WE ARE BUILDING A DICTATORSHIP OF RELATIVISM that does not recognize anything as definitive and whose ultimate goal consists solely of one's own ego and desires.” (http://www.vatican.va/gpII/documents/homily-pro-eligendo-pontifice_20050418_en.html; http://www.ignatiusinsight.com/features2005/colson_relativism_may05.asp).

On the other side of the coin are those who are quick to judge while being blind to their own sinfulness and hypocrisy. Objectively we must judge right from wrong according to the actions of others so as not to do the same as well as praying and offering our sacrifices for them and then perhaps offering a word of advice at the right moment with love and humility. But subjectively, that which is going on inside the head of the one who is objectively doing wrong, his motives, the graces receive from God, his personal life history, etc., only God knows this, and thus only God can judge this person’s culpability.

On the left side are those who presume that all is ok according to their relativistic mentality. “Today, I was led by an Angel to the chasms of hell… But I noticed one thing: that MOST OF THE SOULS THERE ARE THOSE WHO DISBELIEVED THAT THERE IS A HELL.” (Diary, 741).

On the right side are those who are fond of doing as the Scribes and Pharisees who brought in a woman who had been caught committing adultery. THE SCRIBES AND PHARISEES WERE BLIND TO THEIR HYPOCRISY even to the point that Jesus said: “For I tell you, unless your righteousness exceeds that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven” (Mt 5:20). “Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?” (Mt 7:3; Lk 6:41).

Both sides of the spectrum lack humility and trust in God and thus are not trying to see things from the point of view of God but from their own point of view as if they decide what is right and wrong as the serpent tempted Adam and Eve (Gen 3:4-5).

An Experience of Life:

I was 17 years old when, expecting a baby, I got married: after ten weary years I got divorced. Then I met Mark, my current partner. To this failure was added the awareness that a clear relationship with the Church and perhaps with God was ending: as a divorced person I would not have been well received in the Church anymore.

What would I have been if a priest had not told me, "God loves you immensely, even as you are?". If he had not kept me in the Church despite my condition? I felt that in the parish there was a place even for me. And from this point my journey of faith was resumed. The first fruit was the desire in me for the need of prayer, the Mass and even the Rosary. My life has changed and along with mine also that of Mark and of my son Lorenzo.

I discovered that all the past pain had a meaning, it was linked to the cry of Jesus on the cross: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?" To that cry I tied the pain of not being able to receive the Eucharist, I tied the review of my previous marriage with the ecclesiastical tribunal. The lived experiences of others in the Group of the Gospel that I frequented are precious to me where there are many who are living now what I went through before.

1 John 3:14

We know that we have passed out of death unto life, because we love the brethren (1 Jn. 3:14).

In order to pass from death to life, it is fundamental to forgive. It is very difficult to forgive, in fact, to be able to forgive a great offence is impossible without asking the help of God.

King David was a good man. Before Saul, his enemy, he saw beyond the law and did not avenge himself.

He deeply lived the "golden rule" of the ethic of all religions inspired by God, “Do onto others as you would have them do onto you”.

Many of us are good, aware of the fragility of human nature: it comes natural to be merciful, compassionate, forgiving in certain circumstances of life.

But Jesus wants our goodness to be the same as that of God; He asks us the maximum, the impossible for our fragile human condition: "Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you ..." .

The truth is in the absurdity of Calvary when, at the height of the greatest injustice, resounds a dying voice: "Forgive them, for they know not what they do."

The wars of all kinds, the walls, the divisions, the courts, the order of the laws are institutions of a world that is believed true and correct, and instead is a collection of absurdities.

Give me Lord the warm tears of forgiveness, peace and mercy, the richness of giving, the measure of God in every action and so I will live Your very Own Life.

The world continues to dream, while You will tell us "blessed" freeing us from "Woe to you".

An Experience of Life:

For a seemingly trivial reason there was born a huge misunderstanding with Ahmed, an Egyptian friend who suffered a delicate operation and who I love as a brother.

I was unusually very angry.

Since I had to leave for a meeting, we met to make peace and everything seemed resolved.

Having returned after about a week, for some reason I could not get in touch with him. Finally one night I went to his house (it was the third time) and I ran across him on a nearby street.

"I can not forgive you – he immediately said to me - I can do this with my enemies, because I am not really interested in them, but I am not able to forgive the ones closest to me.

I told him: "I ask you again for your pardon and forgiveness. It is true, there was a misunderstanding between us. I am not surprised that you can not forgive me. It is normal, no man can do this. Only God, Allah, can help us. It is His gift that He gives us if we ask Him. If you agree, let us do it together, praying in silence."

The road was lit and quite popular because of its proximity to the station. Silently we focused our concentration for a good amount of time and we prayed to God the Father (which Ahmed calls Allah).

When we finished he looked at me and said: "I have forgiven you; it is the first time that I did this immediately".

"Of course - I replied - this time it was possible because we asked God and He gives this to His children."

While walking together, I also said: "Do you see, we all need to be forgiven. In the Gospel it is written how to do it: If you forgive little you are forgiven little, if you forgive much you are forgiven much, if you forgive all you are forgiven all. This is written in the Gospel and applies to all men. Surely there are things just as beautiful in the Koran: If you can, look for them and show them to me".

We were full of joy.

"Listen Ahmed - I asked - what do you think if we thank Allah."

We again stopped and quietly, intently, we thanked Him.

Matthew 9:13

Matthew 9:13

‘Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, and not sacrifice” ’ (Mt 9:13).

Caravaggio, when he painted the call of Levi, had a great intuition: he identified the gaze of Jesus with the ray of light that illuminates the faces of Levi and his tax collector friends.

Mercy needs to meet with misery, in order to manifest itself. The Son of Man came not for the righteous, but sinners. “I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.”

To make ourselves known to the Lord means to undress ourselves of the fig leaves with which we want to hide our nakedness and to let ourselves to be dressed by His embrace. If we allow ourselves to love, then we too will be able to love: we will sell everything to possess the hidden treasure, the precious pearl.

Levi, whose name still suggests those living with obsession for money, became Matthew, evangelist and evangelizer, martyr, all of God, to the point of the gift of life.

An Experience of Life:

When my husband abandoned us, Luke was four years old and for him I found the strength to continue to live.

One day I heard it said, for the first time, that God is love and sustains those who suffer ... I realized that I had to make a decisive change in my life. For Luke I had to be mother and father, without tarnishing with my deep resentment his relationship with his father.

Trying to live the Gospel step by step, caused in me a change; the great love for only one man was being poured out on those who passed by me: relatives, friends, colleagues, students ...

After a silence of almost ten years, Luke met his father and, not having grown up in resentment, it seemed normal for him to get back in touch with him.

Last year Frank was in the hospital and I recommended to Luke to visit him. When we had huge financial problems Luke spontaneously asked for help from his father who offered to him total willingness to help. He, who once had stripped us of everything, even taking away the spoons, now began to give back to us not that which he had deprived us, but the love that we had given to him.
